NACOMYO Southern Zone suspends Da’wah Retreat, major activities

The National Council of Muslim Youths Organisations (NACOMYO), Southern Zone has suspended its upcoming Da’wah Retreat and other major activities in compliance with government directives.

In a statement released in Benin, the Southern Zonal Chairman who also doubles as the National Vice President 1, Abdul Mojeed Momoh and the Zonal Secretary Abdul Aziz Babalola, said that as a critical stakeholder in the religious circle, it has since suspended its major activities including its forthcoming 8th Southern Zonal Da’wah Retreat scheduled to hold in Ogun state.

The apex Muslim Youth body in Nigeria commended the federal and state governments, particularly the governments of Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Rivers, Enugu and Edo States among others for their broad based and proactive steps in containing the spread of the pandemic, while appreciating the efforts of other stakeholders who are not in government.

It also commended President Buhari for ordering a lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States for 14 days, noting that it is a right step to stop the further spread of the virus to other states in Nigeria.

NACOMYO further commended members of the organised private sector for their kind-hearted donations in the fight against the pandemic, saying that other well-to-do individuals should toe the same path.

“We urge them and other well-meaning individuals and public sector players to focus on the provision of basic nutritional needs of citizens whose means of livelihood have been impacted negatively by the drastic measures taken by the government.

“They should provide food items at both the state and local government levels. We at NACOMYO Southern Zone are also ready to work with different state and local governments in the South West, South South and South East, particularly in the areas of enlightenment and provision of stimulus packages to the needy so no one is left to suffer as a result.”

It reminded its members across the states to take precautionary measures as advised by the appropriate medical body seriously, while emphasizing that washing of hands with soap, appropriate use of sanitizers regularly, getting medical help if sick, avoiding touching the nose, eyes and mouth, keeping social distance, sneezing and coughing into disposable tissues or elbows as well as disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces are instructive to prevent oneself.

The Islamic group also urged the citizens to corporate with the government by keeping to the directives issued, and especially staying indoors, noting that this is their own major contribution in the fight against Coronavirus.

Good and timely advice, Ekiti state is putting spirited measure in place too to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Dual should also be one of the strategy to the disease. May Allah guide and protect us.
