Z&S Coordinator, Ustadh Abdul Jaleel Haroon passes, buried in Lagos amidst encomiums

Abdul Jaleel Haroon

Wednesday, June 3, 2020 would remain a sombre day for Nigerian Muslims as the remains of the late prominent teacher and Islamic scholar, Ustadh Abdul-Jaleel Haroon was buried in Lagos.

Ustadh Harun, coordinator of Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos died on Wednesday after complications from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Sources told Muslim News that the 46-year-old Imam was hit by a car while on a motorcycle along Mowe/Ibafo axis of Ogun state on the 27th of Ramadan 1441AH (Wednesday, May 20).

According to Alhaji Abdur Rasheed Adesanya, a close friend;

“He was admitted at the hospital and was thereafter discharged since it wasn’t a deep injury. Unknown to him, the injury got infected despite his frequent visit to the hospital for dressing. Few days later he fell sick as a result of the infection which also affected his ability to speak.

“He was therefore rushed to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the illness got worse before he was transferred to the Intensive care unit at Dorcas Hospital where he lost the battle yesterday,” he added.

…His last online tafsir of Surah Yunus (100-109) held live on the Facebook page of MSSN IKEJA AREA COUNCIL, before the accident on May 20.

Abu Aminah, as the late Ustadh Haroon is fondly called, was buried on the same day (Wednesday) at a Muslim cemetery, Agege Jafojo, Lagos, in accordance with the Islamic rites.

Muslim News learnt that due to social distancing policies in Lagos, only few friends, family members and Islamic scholars such as Honorable (Dr.) Abdul Hakeen Abdul Lateef, Ustadh Aqip Fajana, among others, were present when he was finally laid to rest.

The Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO), Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafii led the Muslims in the Janazah (funeral prayers) as he sought Allah’s forgiveness and mercy for the deceased.

Dr.Abdul Lateef, former Commissioner of Home Affairs in Lagos, addressed those present, reminding them that Indeed death is a certainty.

“Let me remind us, all of us here that we are all created from dust and would therefore return to it at the appointed time. But no one among us knows who is next. May Allah forgive our brother all his shortcomings and grant him Aljanah Firdaus. Ameen,” he added.

Until his death, he was the Chief Imam of Olowora and Kajola Central Mosques respectively. He was a Ruqya (exorcism) specialist. He was also the former Cultural Affairs Officer of The Muslim Congress (TMC), Ikeja, Lagos.

Ustadh Abdul Jaleel Haroon, who many regarded as loving, caring and intelligent is survived by his mother, wife, five children and other relatives.

ENCOMIUMS

Allahuma Igfrilahu Warhamuhu. Oh Allah! It’s painful to us but your decision is final. Therefore, we beseech You to accept all his good deeds, overlook the shortcomings, grant him Al – Jannatul Firdaws and give the family and brethren the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. – ADEOLA JELEEL

To Allah we belong and to Him is our return. I have been looking for his contact for long for missing him for a long while. He was an elderly friend to me. His death is a very great loss. May Allah Grant him paradise. Such is life and every soul shall taste the stupor of death. Let’s do good for this type of journey. It’s very heart touching. Ustaz Jaleel was one of my motivators to learn. May Allah forgive his gentle soul. – SIRAJ ABDULFATTAH

Alhamdulillah, he did his best in the Dawah work. May Almighty Allah accept everything from him. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and admit him into Aljannah Fridaos. We in Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation would for ever remember and pray for you. – LAWAL ABIODUN
