Impeccable Mathematics Tutors is set to organise a 3-day free virtual mathematics class for students in Junior Secondary School across Nigeria.
The class, which is scheduled to hold online, will kickstart by Friday, 17th July, 2020 and end on Sunday, 19th July, 2020.
Speaking with Muslim News, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Centre, Miss Mariam Lawal said the aim of the class was to demystify the acclaimed difficult topics in the Junior Secondary School Curriculum.
The 300 level student of Mathematics Education at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) also added that the project was particularly to cushion the effect of the novel Coronavirus on students which has impacted negatively on schooling.
According to her, “The Impeccable Mathematics Tutors is a team of passionate undergraduate students majoring in Engineering, Education and Sciences who have taken it upon themselves to impart and motivate students and adults and instill the love of mathematics in them.
“With the halt of many a plan and course effected by the coming of COVID-19, the team introduces an intensive 3-day free Mathematics clinic for Junior secondary School students. The coaching hopes to replace the dread many a student has attached to the subject.”
Speaking further, the young Muslimah entrepreneur shared her experiences in her sojourn so far which influenced the initiative, assuring that she is determined to demystify all the myths surrounding mathematics as a subject.
“I’ve always been passionate about replacing the dread most students have attached to Mathematics. About 65% of students, especially secondary school students have it as the most failed subject. Little wonder there is strong dispassion for it.
“Perhaps, the dread was birthed from having a bad foundation in the subject, complexity in the teaching modality adopted by some teachers, or poor concentration levels from students.
“As an undergraduate in my early twenties, I haven’t just sit back to only cry wolf about the obvious apathy and do nothing. The very contrary is what I took up. I have taught and inspired several young persons in Oshodi about the sweetest subject ever came across by man, Mathematics.
“I have also in my ways tried to replace the dispassion with a knack for Mathematics. In fact, I founded a small tutorial last year where my team and I organised a one-on-one home Mathematics coaching for students in pre-tertiary institution levels at affordable prices,” she said.
Lawal said the initiative was her own little way of giving back to the society, hinting however that she wouldn’t be doing it alone, as the foundation is made up of committed team members.
She also encouraged parents and guardians to enrol their children and wards for the free class, noting that it is an adventure they would never regret.
