MNAwards 2020: How the winners will emerge

The organisers of the #MNAwards2020, Muslim News, Nigeria’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper, have formally unveiled the newly introduced categories for the third edition of the yearly ‘Global Muslim Personality’ and ‘Nigerian Muslim Personality’ awards.

In a press statement signed by the Publisher, Mr. Rasheed Abubakar, on Monday, this year’s award, like in the past, is aimed at celebrating Muslim achievers who have excelled and made the Muslim community proud, both in Nigeria and globally.

Mr. Abubakar said apart from the yearly announcement of Muslim Personalities for Nigeria and across the world, the #MNAwards2020 will also feature five additional categories to honour Muslim professionals in media, health, law, finance and entertainment circles.

Last year, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum emerged the Global and Nigerian Muslim Personality respectively.

According to Mr. Abubakar, “We believe that in every profession, there are some exceptional Muslims who go the extra mile to use their knowledge and expertise to benefit their fellow Muslims and humanity at large. Now, it’s time to recognise their efforts and celebrate them, because if we don’t blow our trumpet, no one will. Besides, as Muslims, no one can write our success stories better than us.”

How winners will emerge

A panel of professionals and trustworthy Muslims set up by the organisers is already putting finishing touches to come up with the overall winners in the two topmost categories — Global and Nigerian Muslim Personality of the Year 2020.

Unlike their western counterparts who openly use the social media to either preach the beauties of #Islam and demand the rights of the oppressed #Muslims, many Nigerian #Muslim #celebrities do not usually do this. 1/4 pic.twitter.com/Mvp36gc8rv

For the winners to emerge in the newly introduced categories, Mr. Abubakar said the Committee is working closely with the National leadership of four notable Muslim professional bodies in Nigeria — Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) and Muslim Professional Accountants’ Association (MPAAN).

According to Mr. Abubakar, “To ensure that the right people emerge in all these categories, we’ll be teaming up with MMPN for the selection of Muslim Media Person of the Year; MULAN, IMAN and MPAAN will assist in the selection process for the winners in Law, Health and Finance respectively.

“The last, which is Muslim Celebrity of the Year will be handled by the #MNAwards2020 Committee. In a situation where more than one credible person is selected in each category, we would result to voting and the best among the best will emerge,” he added.

The organisers are seeking moral and material support from individuals, corporate organisations and relevant government agencies in actualising the project, while appreciating those who have been been of assistance from the inception in 2018. Follow this link to support.
