The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kwara State chapter, has condemned the State government’s approval of the Hijab in public/grant-aided schools, saying that it will cause discrimination and allow terrorists to easily identify their children.
CAN made the disclosure on Friday in a communique signed by its Secretary, Rev Ibitoye JP and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Apostle Shina Ibiyemi JP at the end of its plenary meeting held at St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral Church, Ilorin.
The Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration had on Thursday affirmed the rights of Muslim female students’ use of Hijab in the State public/grant-aided schools, following several incidents of acts of discrimination, molestation and assault on Muslim students over the use of Hijab.
The Christian body said, “We condemn the use of Hijab in Christian Missions grant-aided schools as this will cause discrimination in schools and allow terrorist (sic) to easily identify our children and wards.
“Christian mission grant-aided schools should be returned to the owners promptly as most of these schools have churches besides them and unnecessary trespass may lead to breakdown of law and order.”
The body also called on Christ faithful to occupy all granted-aided schools in the State.
“Christians should have a day for prayers and fasting for God to interface in the imbroglio. We shall continue to interact and dialogue with the State Government on the return of grant-aided schools to the proprietors,” it added.
Many Nigerian Muslims have faulted the Christian body’s claims that the use of Hijab, a divinely-ordained dress code with the backing of the Nigerian constitution and several subsisting court judgments, will expose children to terrorism.
Kazeem Saheed said, in a thread monitored by Muslim News, “Christians should stop this overt christianization and hypocrisy. Hijab is different from terrorist attack. Hijab is cloth and terrorist attack is evil. Mary the mother of Jesus Christ used the hijab (head cover) so, stop this nonsense. Stop victimizing female Muslims, please. They have a right to freedom of worship.”
According to Bashir Shuaibu, extremists are in every religion, if Christian girls are exposed to Muslim terrorists because of not wearing the Hijab, the Muslim girls will also be exposed to Christian terrorists who molest and assault them because they wear the Hijab.
