+ Blow-by-blow of the 3-hour free medical exercise

Vanguards Alumni return to base, stage first Humanitarian Outreach

Odosengolu community in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria on Saturday, March 20 came alive for the maiden edition of Vanguards Academy Old Students Association (VAOSA) Humanitarian Outreach.

Neighbouring communities such as Iloti, Itamapako, and others also benefited from the exercise which included the administration of free medical checkups, malaria, and blood sugar tests, vitals, medication, among others.

Muslim News findings revealed that as early as 7/8 am, the members of the medical caravan arrived at the venue from different states days earlier to put things in place before the commencement of the exercise by 10 am on the D-day.

Our correspondent also observed that the event was held in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols as the convener ensured beneficiaries and its officials observed social distancing, washed their hands with soap and clean water, and used face masks.

Muslim News, Nigeria’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper captured the blow-by-blow of the medical outreach that lasted for 3 hours.

▪︎ The Programme started with the opening prayer and introduction of guests. It was anchored by Quratul-Ayn Zafaran, a 600L student of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

▪︎ The opening speech was conducted by the Alumni 3rd President, Pharmacist Abdullah Abebefe. While welcoming the guests, including the school Principal, Mr. Lukman Alatise and other beneficiaries, he told them the importance of the outreach.

“This is one of our ways of giving back to the host community of our great alma mata. I can assure you that every medical test and prescribed drugs here today will be given for free,” he added.

▪︎ The counseling session was chaired by the wife of the Director of the School, Dr. Balqees Atobatele (Adeniyi), who emphasised on the need for healthy living, especially keeping fit and maintaining balanced diet.

– Questions and Answer session was done.

▪︎The main event: The Medical Outreach started with medical check up, which included checking of height and weight. It was done by Ahmad Aminah, Shafii Habeebah Akanji Khadijah and Yahya Khadijah.

▪︎The patients were directed to check their vitals (temperature and blood pressure), which was done by Hassan Sanni, Ademola Khadijah, Khaolah Gabadeen, Hakeem-Popoola Fatimah.

▪︎ They were directed to the Tests department which was handled by Maryam Ismail Badmus and Olagunju Aisha, where the beneficiaries were tested for malaria and blood sugar.

▪︎Vitals (temperature and blood pressure) team comprised Hassan Sanni, Ademola Khadijah, Khaolah Gabadeen, Hakeem-Popoola Fatimah.

▪︎ Review of tests by Doctors: The patients were directed to the visit the Doctors — Gbenusola Abdullah, Zafaran Quratul-Ayn and Idris Taiwo Adebayo, who reviewed their vitals and tests. The patients were given prescriptions, after which they moved to the final level.

▪︎Pharmacy: The last stage was where patients collected their drugs. It was handled by Ashiru Safiyyah, Ettu Faruq, Bakre Faizah and they gave the patients drugs as prescribed by the doctors.

▪︎Personnel: More than 30 members of VAOSA were present at the event. They were all divided into groups, including Protocols: Al-ameen Sulaiman, Anif Anifowoshe; Numbering: Yahya Muhammad, Maruf Khadijah, Elegbede Safiyyah, Ajibade Ramlah; Publicity: Ajiboye Fatimah, Sekoni Ibrahim, among others such as vitals, test, pharmacy.

▪︎ Closing time: The programme was rounded off at exactly 1pm by the President, Pharmacist Abebefe as he thanked his members for their selfless services and wished them journey mercies back to their various destinations.

Vanguards Academy Old Students Association, famously known as VAOSA is a voluntary association of members formed to enhance the welfare of their members and give back to their alma mata, Vanguards Academy.
