BREAKING: MSSN member, Ibrahim Alimi is UNILAG’s Best Graduating Student of 281 First Class Candidates

An active member of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, University of Lagos Chapter, Ibrahim Adedeji Alimi has emerged as the 2018/2019 best graduating student of the institution, with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.98 out of a possible 5 points.

Alimi was declared the best graduand by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe at a press briefing held on Wednesday to officially announce the 51st convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, holding between Monday, July 5 and Thursday, July 8, 2021.

Prof. Ogundipe, while addressing the pressmen, disclosed that 281 First Class graduands are among more than 15,000 billed to receive their certificates and diplomas during the ceremonies.

Prof. Ogundipe disclosed that the best graduand, Ibrahim Alimi Adedeji, from the Faculty of Science (Engineering, Mechanical Engineering), led the pack with cumulative gradient point average (CGPA) of 4.98 out of the possible 5 points.

Alimi was an active member of MSSN, UNILAG chapter throughout his 5 years course. He participated in many of its academic and religious activities, including mentorship programmes for members of the society.

The best graduating student

Since when he was in Year 2, Alimi has been among the resource persons at MSSN Freshers’ Week. He was also the Chairman of the Annual Engineering Freshers’ Day for the faculty.

Apart from Alimi, Muslim News findings revealed that no fewer than 30 active members of the Muslim students body also graduated with first class in their various fields of study, including the Amir (President), Hassan Salaudeen, who studied Systems Engineering.

Also, another member of the society, who works as Sales Representative for this medium (Muslim News), Labeebah Damilola Dhikrullah, graduated with First Class from the Department of Marine Science.

Speaking with our Correspondent on Thursday, Alimi, who is currently serving at a private company in Lagos, said being the best graduating student in the University comes with a lot of prestige one needs to be proud of.

According to him, “Everybody wants to be associated with success and the fact that you’re celebrated is a great thing. All glory be to Almighty Allah for the opportunity. I feel so elated and happy. My parents are also very proud of me, and my friends as well. It’s a great thing.”

It would be recalled that the Convocation was initially scheduled to hold between March 9 -12, 2020, before it was abruptly postponed. Some of the graduated students, Muslim News learnt would miss the event as they’re currently undergoing the compulsory one-year NYSC programme across different states of the federation.
