A renowned medical practitioner and winner of the 2020 Nigerian Muslim Health Person of the Year, Dr. Rasaq Oyelami Saliu has officially joined the race for the Osun State gubernatorial election, scheduled for 16th July, 2022.
Muslim News findings revealed that having considered his pedigrees and tentacles in politics, the Osun state chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, is favourably disposed to endorsing the founder, Shifauk Hospital, Akure, in the forthcoming election.
Dr. Oyelami, who hails from Okua town in Osun State, was the leading governorship aspirant of Action Democratic Party in 2018 before stepping down for another candidate in the interest of the party.
The graduate of the University of Ilorin told Muslim News why he wants to become the next governor of Osun State. He said, “I have been in various movements for a nation of our dream since my school days. However, the race for governorship practically started in 2017 after my endorsement by many community groups in Osun. So, l needed to respond to the call to serve.”
The media expert and humanitarian activist disclosed that the state of the nation and Osun State in particular in recent times requires that all who have the competence to make a positive difference should come to the rescue of the people.
“As a leader, l have responsibilities to God, our people and myself. So, l came out for the post of governor in 2018, but had to later step down under certain circumstances for another aspirant.” He said.

In a recent statement released by the party, Osun NNPP chairman, Pastor (Dr.) Tosin Odeyemi described Dr. Oyelami as a golden fish endowed with natural gifts needed to move the state forward.
He noted that such a young person must not be left to waste away at this crucial time when so many things are in comatose in the state, ranging from economy to education, physical infrastructure, youth development and so on.
Odeyemi stressed that if Oyelami would not mind, the party was ready to work together with him towards actualizing his dream of a better Osun State that the old and young shall be proud of.
‘Nigerian Muslim Health Person of the Year’
In 2021, this medium announced Dr. Oyelami as the Nigerian Muslim Health Person of the year 2020 for his immense contributions to the community, with a history of selflessness and sacrifice in health delivery, especially in Ondo, Osun and Kwara states, irrespective of the religion of beneficiaries.
Oyelami was prominent in the COVID-19 fight since the pandemic hit Nigeria on February 27, 2020. He has organised many awareness programmes in mosques and communities.
He also holds regular enlightenment talks on radio and television stations. Consequently, he was appointed as the IPC Lead for private hospitals in Ondo State COVID-19 Medical Team.
He is the Financial Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA in Ondo State and the National Vice President II of the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN). He owns Aroleorisun Medical Mission in Okua , Odo Otin, and Shifauk Hospital, Akure.
