The National headquarters of the Muslim students Society of Nigeria, MSSN, has condemned in strong terms the killing of the Deborah Samuel by a mob in Sokoto over alleged blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad, SAW.

The umbrella organisation and mouthpiece of all Muslim Students in Nigeria also condemned blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad, SAW, saying those who mock him irrespective of whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims have committed the most heinous crimes.

In a press release issued by its President, Shehu Uthman Abubakar over the weekend, the body said, “Our attention has been drawn to a blasphemous audio utterance made against the most revered personality of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, allegedly by one late Deborah Yakubu, a Student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto and the resultant extra-judicial lynching and setting ablaze of the accused by a mob on Thursday, May the 12th, 2002.

“As the umbrella Organization and mouthpiece of all Muslim Students in Nigeria, we condemn both incidents as they are potent enough to overheat the already tense Nigeria situation in this trying times,” he said.

MSSN categorically stated that insulting, mocking or blaspheming against the holy personality of the Prophet (PBUH) by Muslims and non-Muslims alike constitute the most heinous crimes.

“Such acts therefore are not only condemnable but also are capable of fanning the embers of hatred in a multi-regions and multi-ethnic setup like Nigeria. To live peacefully, we must learn to respect the sanctities of the other.

“Let it also be categorically stated that it is condemnable for a mob to have arrogated to themselves the power of prosecution, judgment and execution in the extant laws of the land and the very Islam that the mob purportedly acted to defend. True defenders of Islam Should not gettison Islamic regulations in trying to defend the same Islam, Amir, Abubakar, noted.

The Muslim students body therefore appealled with a strong voice to all relevant authorities to be very proactive at tackling the situation so as to curtail the act of people from taking laws into their hands that will further create lawlessness in our society.

“May Allah guide our leaders to nip in the bud all volatile and unfortunate tendencies in the land at all times. Ameen,” he added.
