Action, not condemnation will end Israeli aggression in Palestine, Muslims slam their leaders

Leaders and representatives of Islamic countries pose for a photo during the opening of the 13th the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit in Istanbul, Turkey, April 13, 2016.

Muslims across the world have frowned at the Arab leaders for issuing only condemnations against Israeli aggression in the besieged Gaza strip, saying that it should be followed with actions.

Israel, regarded by many as an apartheid state, over the weekend launched offensive airstrikes in Gaza, killing 40 Palestinians, including 15 children.

The attack, which was halted on Monday following a ceasefire agreement between Tel-Aviv and the Palestinian armed forces, has received strong condemnation from Arab leaders, including Saudi Arabia, the custodian of two holiest mosques.

Rather than praising their leaders for speaking up against the Israeli terror which has been ongoing for decades unchecked, majority of Muslims believed that condemnation without action will amount to exercise in futility.

Many of them said the Arabs in particular have the strength, capacity and resources to impose heavy sanctions on Israel for killing innocent Palestinians and violating international laws but failed to apply it due to unholy relationship with the apartheid state.

Reacting to Saudi Arabia’s press statement where the kingdom strongly condemned Israel, Shahid Hussain from Oman said;

“KSA condemned…? I strongly condemn…What is useful… ?

Jabran Sabir described the condemnation as facade, meant for the media only, adding, “In reality, they accept Israel on every platform,” referring to the  recent Arab-Israel normalisation.

Kelly Connor from Ireland also aired his opinion. He said:

“Just condemned. It’s really funny. Israel is killing many children, rapes women, unjustly occupying Palestinian lands, leading the Islamic world, Saudi Arabia only condemns Israel.”

Dhamis Cole from Nigeria also expressed his disappoinment, saying:

“We are tired of condemnations, we want action! Why always Israel killing our brothers in Palestine? Are they above the law? Ya Allah 🙏 help our brothers and sisters in the Palestine (with crying emoji).”

Noreen Siddique from Pakistan called for a complete boycott of Israel. He said;:

“Not only condemnation, it should be completely boycotted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Others like Nurudeen Faiz from Philippines suggested both condemnation and sanctions against Israel.

The netizens did not spare Turkiye’s President Erdogan, who has over the years criticised Israeli aggression in Palestine both in words and actions, until this year, when, according to MJ Aaj from Lebanon, “he invited Israel (to Ankara)…”

They were reacting to President Erdogan’s latest video where he said, “There cannot be justification for killing of children and babies still in cradles”, suggesting that Palestinians need solutions to end the aggression against Israel.

Yet, some netizens disagreed, saying that President Erdogan must be appreciated for his unflinching support for the Palestinians.

Shaahil Osman from Somalia;

“To be honest, I appreciate you (Erdogan) because you’re not like those who call themselves Arabs who fail to help their innocent brothers. But Mr. Erdogan, they don’t need speech what they need is action.”

Nahim Ali from Iraq said he has seen Erdogan defending Palestinians struggle with passion especially at United Nations, UN, but said the time for talk without action is over.

According to him;

“He has advocated for Palestinian statehood on several occasions, even at the floor of the United Nations, where he recently called on Arab leaders and the UN to stop Israeli aggression. He also promised to support any peaceful initiative by these leaders but since they failed to act, Erdogan should act. Turkiye has the largest army with sophisticated weapons, he should deploy them against Israel.

Umar Faruk, a Nigerian based in Cameroon called on Muslim leaders to unite and defend Palestine from the occupation forces.

He said, Palestinians need solutions to this incessant aggressions. You need not only condemn, leaders like you and others including Saudi Arabia need to do something for Palestinians’ freedom.

“But if you leaders ignore this unarmed innocent Palestinians, wallahi you will be accountable for all happenings to them on the day of judgment because you had the means to protect them but you didn’t because of politics.!”

Some netizens, however, said condemning Israel is still in the right place compared to the past years when Muslim leaders will keep criminal silence in the face oppression being meted against their brethren.

Danjuma Adamu from Northern Nigeria said:

“At least they have shown their displeasure by condemning the atrocities…”

Q. Why is it difficult for the Arab and the world to attack Israel in defence of Palestine after failed years of condemnation?
