An Iseyin, Oyo State-based pastor, Stephen Kolawole and Ogunwale Olayemi have been arraigned in court for assaulting a Muslim man, Mallam Sulaimon Abdulazeez and his niqabi (veiled) wives – Hajia Nafisat Imran and Hajia Abdulrasaq Hajara.
The duo were arraigned before Justice O. O. Ogunkanmi on Thursday, July 11 at the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Iyaganku in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Abdulazeez and his wives were wounded while other Muslims sustained various degrees of injuries on Sunday, June 16, 2024 when Pastor Kolawole and his son Damilola, accompanied by his friends in Army uniform attacked the victims while they were slaughtering their cow for the Eid-Al-Adha festival in front of their house at Barracks area in Iseyin.
Muslim News gathered that the duo of Kolawole and Ogunwale have been arraigned in the court on a six-count charge, while his son, Damilola, and others are still at large.
The duo were arraigned through charge number: M1/890C/2024.
The charge sheet reads, “That you Stephen Kolawole ‘M’, Ogunwale Olayemi ‘M’ and others now at large, on the 16th day of June, 2024, at Barracks area, Iseyin in the Iseyin Magisterial district triable in the Ibadan Magisterial district did conspire with one another to commit felony to assault occasioning harm, causing grievous harm and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you Stephen Kolawole, Ogunwale Olayemi and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Abdul-Azeez Suleimon ‘M’ by hitting him with a baton on his head and caused him grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 252 and punishable under Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you Stephen Kolawole, Ogunwale Olayemi and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Imran Nofisat ‘F’ by hitting her with an iron rod on her head and caused her bodily harm and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 252 and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you Stephen Kolawole, Ogunwale Olayemi and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Abdulrasaq Hajara ‘F’ by hitting her sticks all over her body and caused her bodily harm and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 252 and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you Stephen Kolawole, Ogunwale Olayemi and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Asisat Azeez ‘F’ by slapping her on her face and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 252 and punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you Stephen Kolawole, Ogunwale Olayemi and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by attacking one AbdulAziz Suleimon ‘M’ and his wives without lawful authority and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38. Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000”.
Ogunkanmi, after listening to counsels to the appellant and defendants then adjourned till September 25, for further hearing.
