Sheikh Yasir Qadhi, Mufti Menk, Amar Al-Shukry, others arrive Nigeria for 1 Ummah Convention

Renowned international Islamic scholars and motivational speakers including Sheik (Dr.) Yasir Qadhi, Mufti Ismail Menk and Sheikh Ammar Al-Shukry, among others have arrived Nigeria for the much awaited and most anticipated Annual Peace and Unity Convention (PUC).

The Convention slated for Saturday and Sunday, 16th-17th November 2024, at the A Class Park, Maitama, Abuja and Eko Hotel Convention Center, Victoria Island, Lagos is an initiative of 1Ummah, an esteemed Islamic organisation dedicated to fostering understanding and community well-being.

This year’s theme: “Resilience and Recovery: The Role of Faith and Reliance in Navigating Crisis,” aims to empower participants as they navigate the challenges of our modern world through the lens of faith.

Details of the Lagos event

Organisers of the event said Dr. Qadhi, a Pakistani American Muslim scholar and theologian is scheduled to lead a special Jum’ah at Lekki Central Mosque, Lekki, while Sheikh Ammar Al-Shukry, who hails from Sudan via Queens New York will be praying at the Alausa Central Mosque, Ikeja, as part of their activities during their stay in Lagos for the 1Ummah Convention.

Dr. Qadhi, who is the lead speaker at the one-day event is expected to speak on ‘Stories of Relevance from the Sirah” and “Understanding and Responding to Global Injustice: Lessons from Gaza” at different sessions while Sheikh Al-Shukry will dissect the topic; “From Helplessness to Strength: Maintaining Muslim Identity and Inclusivity in a Fragmented Global Community.”

The duo will be paired during a panel discussion to be moderated by Hajia Nyma Akashat-Zibiri, a lawyer and one of the presenters of Your View; a popular TV programme in Nigeria.

Although not part of his engagement for the PUC, Mufti Menk, a leading global Islamic scholar is scheduled to lead a special Jum’ah at the ICICE Al-Noor Masjid, FCT, Abuja today before joining the Lagos audience for tomorrow’s event where he will be speaking on “Embracing Allah, the Ultimate Provider: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Divine Assurance”.

The Jum’ah service which Mufti Menk is to lead is being organised by the International Center for Culture and Education, the custodian of Al-Noor Mosque, Abuja.

The annual event will also parade some Nigerian scholars including Imam (Dr.) Rasheed Ashimolowo (an international peace preacher; Sheikh Ridwan Jamiu (Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque); Imam Ndako Mijindadi (Head of Investment & Research at Lotus Capital); Dr. Maymunnah Kadiri (mental health advocate); Ridwan Badmus (FR Data Protection, Privacy Technologist/Cloud Engineer) and a host of others who will share insights on the theme.

The Managing Director, Ardova Plc, Alhaji Moshood Olajide will deliver the keynote address on “Resilience and Recovery – The Place of Tawheed and Tawakkul in the Ummah’s Response to the Deepening Economic and Geopolitical Crises”.

The fully loaded family event will also feature free mental health session, vibrant children and teen sessions, workshops and a lot of exciting activities for the day, with Jubril Folami and Hakeem Onasanya as the MCs for the main event.

Details of Abuja event

Day 1 of Abuja event on Saturday will parade renowned international and Nigerian scholars such as Sheikh Wael Ibrahim (Australia), Ustazha Taimiyyah Zubair (AlMaghrib Institute, Texas, US) and Sheikh Nurudeen Lemu (Islamic Education Trust, IET, Minna, Nigeria) among others.

The Sunday sessions in Abuja promises to be educative, informative with soul inspiring lectures by other Nigerian and international scholars including Sheikh Waleed Basyouni (Al-Imam Muhammad University, KSA), Dr. Muhammad Salah (Texas, USA), Dr. Muhammad Adeyemi ( Baynakum Family Counselling Centre, Abuja) and Prof Professor Isa Ali Pantami, Majidadin Daular Usmaniya and immediate former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria, among others.

In a press statement, the Amir of 1Ummah, Hamza Suru said the convention will offer family-friendly activities, including dedicated programming for children that promotes teamwork and creativity.

“We invite everyone to join us for uplifting discussions and family activities that reflect our shared values,” he added.

Since 2016, the 1Ummah Convention has been a key event for spiritual enrichment and community connection.
