Turkiye Diyanet Foundation has provided free cataract surgery for 200 Nigerians as part of its humanitarian activities.
The surgery lasted three days, commencing from January 10th to 12th, 2025.
It was held in Kaduna State, Nigeria.
Cataract is a common disease in Nigeria, affecting mostly adults of over 40 years of age.

Cataract is a clouding in the lens of the eyes that leads to decreased vision. It can also cause permanent vision loss if left untreated.
According to the 2018 Nigerian National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey (NNBVIS), 7.2% of Nigerians over 40 had cataracts in one or both eyes. Cataracts account for about 43% of visual impairment cases in Nigeria.
Counsellor for Religious Affairs Office, Turkiye Embassy, Abuja, Huseyini Ortac, who made the free cataract surgery by the Turkish Foundation known, said many people develop cataract due to hot weather, nutrition and the climate conditions in Africa.

“As Turkiye Diyanet Foundation, we give hope to our brothers who have lost their sight and are desperately waiting for a helping hand,” he added.
