“You are an epitome of accountability” — TMC applauds JAMB Boss Oloyede’s integrity over UTME glitch

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Oloyede retains third position on the list of Top 5 Nigerian Muslim Personalities of the year 2019

Prof. Oloyede

The Muslim Congress (TMC) has publicly commended the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for his swift, transparent, and accountable response to the technical issues that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement signed by Alhaji AbdulWasi’I Taiwo Bangbala, Amir of The Muslim Congress, on Friday, the group praised Prof. Oloyede’s “exemplary display of leadership” after the UTME results of 379,997 candidates across 157 centers were affected by technical hitches.

“In a nation where institutional failures are often met with denial, deflection or blame-shifting, Prof. Oloyede’s swift and decisive response serves as a beacon of integrity in public service,” the statement read.

Rather than downplaying the incident, the JAMB Registrar ordered an independent and professional probe, publicly acknowledged the glitches, and announced that affected candidates would be rescheduled to retake the exam between May 16 and 19, 2025.

TMC described the Registrar as a “reform-driven and accountable public servant” whose tenure has been marked by transformative policies and an unwavering commitment to credibility in Nigeria’s education system.

“His rare demonstration of humility and responsibility aligns with the Islamic principles of Amanah (trustworthiness) and Mas’uliyyah (accountability), which demand that leaders uphold justice and rectify wrongs,” the group said.

While some critics have called for Prof. Oloyede’s resignation, TMC strongly condemned such demands, labeling them “unjust and counterproductive.”

“They punish transparency, discourage future leaders from admitting mistakes and undermine the very progress Nigeria desperately needs. Leadership is not about infallibility but about the courage to confront challenges, the wisdom to seek solutions and the integrity to take responsibility, all of which Prof. Oloyede has clearly demonstrated,” the release stated.

TMC called on stakeholders and the public to support rather than vilify public officials who show integrity and accountability.

“We strongly appeal to parents and students that this is an honest mistake made in the course of instituting excellence in the selection of our best students for tertiary education and that rewriting the examination is a sacrifice that we should humbly embrace in the course of the nation’s much-needed development,” the statement added.

The group also extended best wishes to affected candidates as they prepare for the retake, expressing hope that they will “approach this opportunity with renewed confidence and emerge successful with outstanding results.”
