Engr. Nimot Muili has been inaugurated as the 16th Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch.
The ceremonial handover, held at BON Hotel Ikeja Residence, Lagos, gathered engineering leaders, industry stakeholders, and dignitaries in celebration of a new era for the esteemed branch.
With a clear vision and passionate resolve, Engr. Muili vowed to strengthen Nigeria’s socio-economic fabric by championing a robust and future-forward engineering culture.
“Today is more than a ceremonial gathering,” she declared in her inaugural address. “It marks a celebration of our shared journey, our collective wins, and a recommitment to building a viable engineering culture that contributes meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development through engineering excellence.”
Her leadership, she explained, will be guided by a meticulously developed 10-year strategic plan aimed at ensuring sustainability, innovation, and institutional continuity.
Muili acknowledged the consistent support of past leaders and members, applauding their role in building the reputation of the Ikeja Branch as “The Branch to Beat.”
She reaffirmed her commitment to collaborative leadership and detailed the branch’s recent milestones:
“We commissioned a solar power system for sustainable energy, secured an 80KVA diesel generator for uninterrupted power, replaced the damaged roof of the Rauf Aregbesola Engineering Resource Centre, installed a branded access door at the administrative office, and pioneered the V-STEAM initiative in line with the MOPSA Agenda’s Community Impact goals.”
Looking ahead, Engr. Muili introduced the branch’s strategic theme for her tenure: ‘Innovation for Tomorrow: Resilient Infrastructure with the Blue Economy’. The theme aligns with the upcoming NSE Annual Conference in Ibadan, which will focus on “Engineering Innovation for a Sustainable Blue Economy.”
She spotlighted the untapped economic opportunities embedded in the Blue Economy – including sustainable fisheries, marine tourism, water transport infrastructure, aquatic agriculture, waste management, and renewable marine energy – particularly as a tool for economic diversification and employment in Lagos State.
To fully leverage these opportunities, Muili emphasized the need to expand maritime infrastructure, promote sailing and recreational sports, invest in tourism, and collaborate with federal agencies to attract marine financing.
The Chairman of the occasion and President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Margaret Oguntala, congratulated the newly inaugurated Chairman and Executive Committee, urging them to lead with vision, inclusiveness, and unwavering commitment.
“The responsibility before you is great,” she said. “Prioritize unity, mentorship of young engineers, and the pursuit of impactful, community-based engineering projects.”
She highlighted the MOPSA document – now formally adopted as NSE’s strategic framework – as a tool to guide the branch’s development agenda. President Oguntala also called for timely payment of membership dues and encouraged eligible members to consider the benefits of life membership.
In his remarks, Immediate Past Chairman Engr. Femi John Adedotun warmly welcomed the new leadership and expressed full confidence in their ability to propel the branch to even greater heights.
“Stay focused, stay moving,” he advised, likening effective leadership to riding a bicycle: “To keep your balance, you must keep moving. Don’t stand still.”
