Residents of Igbo Elerin and surrounding communities in the Ojo area of Lagos have benefitted from a free medical outreach organised by Rafeeqee Foundation Incorporation as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare amid growing economic hardship.
The outreach, held on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Al Mujeeb Nursery and Primary School in Igbo Elerin, Ojo, attracted a large turnout of residents who took advantage of free medical screening and consultation services provided by healthcare professionals.
The programme, which commenced in the early hours of the day and ended in the afternoon, offered services including blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, and general medical consultations, with doctors also providing guidance on health conditions and preventive care.
Speaking at the event, a member of the Rafeeqee Foundation team, Hajia Faizah Lawal Tijani, said the initiative was born out of concern for people who often neglect their health due to daily survival pressures.
She explained that many individuals are more focused on meeting financial responsibilities than paying attention to their health, a situation she said has led to avoidable medical emergencies and sudden deaths.
According to her, the foundation designed the outreach to help community members assess their health status at no cost and receive professional medical advice.
She added that the outreach is part of several humanitarian interventions carried out by the foundation across the country, including Ramadan support programmes, back to school initiatives, hospital visits, prison outreach, orphanage support, and planned food distribution activities during Sallah celebrations.
Medical personnel who participated in the exercise also commended the initiative. Dr Sunday Stephen, one of the doctors at the outreach, described it as a meaningful opportunity to serve humanity while raising awareness about hidden health conditions.
He noted that a significant number of participants were diagnosed with high blood pressure without prior knowledge, stressing that early detection through such programmes could prevent serious health complications.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.
Mr and Mrs Kareem said the exercise provided them with valuable health education and encouraged them to take better care of their well being.
Another beneficiary, Ms. Shukurat Isiaka, described the outreach as an eye opening experience that improved her understanding of personal health management.
Ms. Fatimah Idris also appreciated the initiative, noting that free medical support in the current economic situation was both surprising and highly commendable, praying for divine reward for the organisers.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to continuing humanitarian services aimed at improving health and wellbeing across communities in Nigeria.
