The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit (MSSNLagos), has called on eligible students and youths to actively participate in the forthcoming general elections, saying the future of Nigeria will be shaped by informed and responsible citizenship rather than political apathy.
The Society made the call during its inaugural press briefing held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, to usher in a new leadership for the student body.
The new Amir of MSSNLagos, Dr. Yusuf Ajibola Salami, urged young Nigerians to take part in the democratic process through voter registration, civic engagement and responsible political participation, stressing that the country’s future depends on the active involvement of its youth population.
“As preparations gradually begin towards the 2027 general elections, MSSNLagos calls on political leaders and stakeholders to place national interest above partisan considerations,” he said.
He added that Nigeria deserves elections that are peaceful, transparent, credible and reflective of the genuine will of the people, while urging political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid rhetoric capable of inflaming tensions or deepening divisions.

Dr. Salami further encouraged students and youths to participate actively in the democratic process through voter registration and civic engagement, noting that apathy would not produce the desired national progress.
“The future of Nigeria will not be shaped by apathy but by informed and responsible citizenship,” he said.
Speaking on the vision of the new administration, the MSSNLagos Amir outlined key priorities to include academic excellence and educational advancement, protection of the rights and welfare of Muslim students, leadership development and mentorship, youth empowerment and skills acquisition, and moral and spiritual development.
He also listed community service and social impact, strategic engagement with government and stakeholders, and institutional growth and sustainability of MSSN Lagos as part of the administration’s core focus areas.
Dr Salami said the administration is committed to building a more impactful, responsive and forward-looking organisation that remains relevant to the aspirations of Muslim students and beneficial to society.
“At a time of significant national challenges and opportunities, MSSN Lagos remains optimistic about the future of Nigeria and its youth population,” he said.
The Amir of MSSN Lagos called on students and young people to remain steadfast, pursue knowledge, develop valuable skills, uphold noble character and contribute positively to their communities.
He reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to serving as a voice for educational advancement, moral excellence, youth development, religious freedom, responsible citizenship and good governance.
“With the support of Allah (SWT), we shall continue to engage constructively, advocate responsibly and work tirelessly towards a society where students can thrive academically, spiritually and socially,” he said.
The Amir prayed for divine guidance and success for the new administration as it begins its tenure.
