BREAKING: All kidnapped Oyo schoolchildren, teachers regain freedom – Presidency

All the pupils and teachers abducted during the May 15 attack on Ahoro Esiele Community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom, the Presidency announced on Friday.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development in a post on X, saying security agencies successfully rescued all the victims.

“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo, have been rescued by our security agencies,” Onanuga wrote.

However, he did not provide details of the rescue operation or indicate whether any suspects were arrested.

The victims were kidnapped on May 15 when heavily armed gunmen stormed Ahoro Esiele Community, abducting 46 pupils, several teachers and the principal of a secondary school, an incident that sparked widespread outrage across the country.

The ordeal turned tragic days later when one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly beheaded by the kidnappers.

Authorities are yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding the rescue of the remaining victims or whether any ransom was paid.

More details are expected.
