* Commends Tinubu, security agencies over Oyo rescue, seeks counselling for survivors
Al-Mu’minaat (The Believing Women) Organisation has called on the Federal Government to sustain the momentum of the successful rescue of abducted school children and teachers in Oyo State by intensifying efforts to free all Nigerians still being held captive across the country.
The Islamic women organisation also urged the government to provide immediate psychological and emotional support for the rescued victims, warning that without proper rehabilitation they could suffer post traumatic stress disorder and other long term mental health challenges.
The call came as the organisation celebrated the successful rescue of the abducted school children and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, while mourning the teacher who lost his life during the ordeal.
In a statement signed by its National Amirah, Hajia Jelilat Abdulhamid, and issued by the organisation’s National Headquarters, Al Mu’minaat expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for the successful rescue operation, describing the victims’ safe return as a source of relief for their families and renewed hope for the nation.
The organisation extended its condolences to the family of the deceased teacher, his colleagues, students and the entire school community, praying that Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants his loved ones the strength and patience to bear the painful loss.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of the teachers who paid the ultimate price during the unfortunate incident. We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, grants his family the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss, and rewards them abundantly for their steadfastness,” the statement said.
Al-Mu’minaat also rejoiced with the rescued children, surviving teachers, their parents, families, school authorities, the Oyo State Government and all Nigerians, saying the successful operation had brought immense relief to the nation.
Commends Tinubu, security agencies
The organisation commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for coordinating the rescue operation and demonstrating commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted children and teachers.
It also praised the security agencies and everyone involved in the operation, saying their courage, professionalism and dedication deserved national recognition.
While celebrating the successful rescue, Al-Mu’minaat appealed to President Tinubu to extend similar efforts to other Nigerians still in captivity across the country.
“Every Nigerian life is precious and deserves protection. We respectfully urge Mr President to sustain these efforts by ensuring that all other Nigerians still held captive in different parts of the country, whether in the North, South, East or West, are rescued and reunited safely with their families,” the organisation stated.
Seeks trauma counselling for survivors
Al-Mu’minaat stressed that the rescued children and teachers would require urgent psychological and emotional rehabilitation after the traumatic experience of captivity.
According to the organisation, the victims could develop post traumatic stress disorder and other mental health challenges if adequate counselling and therapeutic interventions were not provided immediately.
“The traumatic experience calls for holistic therapeutic interventions for all the rescued victims, young and old. The days in captivity would have had a great effect on their minds and this must be attended to immediately. Leaving this need undone will predispose them to post traumatic stress disorder and other mental health issues,” the statement added.
Protects schools from future attacks
The organisation also called on the Federal Government and other relevant stakeholders to implement lasting security measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
It emphasised that schools must remain safe spaces where children can pursue education without fear and teachers can discharge their responsibilities in peace and security.
“As an organisation committed to family values and moral development, we also call upon parents, especially mothers, to continue playing their indispensable role in nurturing, guiding and supervising their children.
“Mothers occupy a unique position in building strong families and shaping responsible future generations. Through sound moral upbringing, close parental engagement and the inculcation of Islamic values, families can contribute significantly to safer and more peaceful communities,” it said.
The organisation quoted Qur’an 5:32, which states: “Whoever saves one life, it is as if he had saved all of mankind.”
Al-Mu’minaat prayed for the complete physical and emotional recovery of the rescued children and teachers, asked Allah to grant the deceased teacher eternal mercy and admit him among the righteous, and prayed for lasting peace, justice, security and prosperity in Nigeria.
