* Highlights legislative activities, constituency interventions
* Convenes stakeholders for 2nd Lagos West Women’s Assembly
The Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule, has empowered 2,000 constituents with ₦200 million in cash support as part of efforts to support grassroots businesses and promote economic empowerment across the senatorial district.
Sen. Adebule disclosed this on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the second edition of the Lagos West Women’s Assembly and Cash Empowerment Programme held at the LTV Blue Roof Pavilion, Ikeja, Lagos, with the theme, “From Voice to Action: Empowering Women for Impact.”
The programme brought together women from across Lagos West, political leaders, community stakeholders and other guests, with Adebule describing the gathering as an opportunity to celebrate women contributing to their families and communities through micro and small businesses.
The senator said the various empowerment programmes organised since she won the ticket to contest the Senate seat were part of her efforts to appreciate the support, prayers and confidence of the people of Lagos West since 2023.
She said her mandate included providing quality legislation, effective representation and oversight, impactful constituency projects and people-centred empowerment.
Giving an account of her legislative activities, Adebule said she had sponsored 12 bills and co-sponsored six others, making a total of 18 bills.
According to her, the bills covered areas including education, child protection, justice system reforms, anti-corruption, land administration and good governance.
She also said she had moved motions of national importance, including a motion addressing the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
“However, legislation alone does not define effective representation. The true measure of representation is the positive impact felt by the people,” she said.
Adebule also gave an account of constituency projects facilitated across the 28 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas that make up Lagos West Senatorial District.
She specifically mentioned the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the 28 LGAs and LCDAs, saying the projects were aimed at improving night life, neighbourhood security and economic activities.
YAYI contributes ₦100m
The senator disclosed that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, contributed ₦100 million to the cash empowerment programme.
Adebule said Adeola had made a commitment during her January 2026 mega empowerment programme and subsequently fulfilled it through the cash donation.
“At our January 2026 mega empowerment programme, he promised some items including small buses in support of our empowerment programme; and I am happy to announce that he has fulfilled his promise, not in terms of those items, but with a donation of N100 million cash,” she said.
She said Adeola’s contribution formed part of the ₦200 million cash empowerment being distributed to the 2,000 beneficiaries.
Adebule expressed appreciation to Adeola, as well as Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the state’s First Lady, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Princess Adebisi Sarah Sosan and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro for their support.
She also acknowledged the APC Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the chairmen of the 28 LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos West, party leaders and members of the Governance Advisory Council.
Adebule endorses Tinubu for second term
Adebule commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom she described as her political father and mentor, for his leadership and commitment to national development.
She also commended the President for what she described as courage in implementing reforms aimed at repositioning the country.
Adebule urged Nigerians to support and re-elect Tinubu for a second term.
“I want to therefore urge all Nigerians of goodwill to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu total support and re-elect him as President and Commander-in-Chief for a second term, to continue the good work he is doing for a brighter rewarding future for Nigeria,” she said.
She also described the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a “dependable pillar of support” and a role model in supporting vulnerable and less privileged Nigerians.
The senator said the empowerment programme was part of her commitment to supporting constituents and appreciating their support since she assumed office in 2023.
Political leaders, women advocates hail Adebule’s empowerment drive
Several prominent political leaders and women advocates addressed the assembly, praising the lawmaker’s focus on poverty alleviation, women’s economic empowerment and grassroots support.
The Chairman of Isolo LCDA and Director General of Adebule’s Campaign Organisation, Adebayo Olasoju, described Senator Adebule as synonymous with empowerment, noting that her commitment to supporting others may stem from her perspective as a woman.
He said more than a thousand individuals would benefit from the scheme and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the resources provided.
Former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen, commended the senator for prioritising women’s economic empowerment, saying that when women are empowered, the broader economy thrives.
She praised Adebule for creating opportunities for women and said, “As a sister and mother privileged to serve the public, Nigeria will be better when we move from voice to action, empowering women to make an impact. Today, what happens after we speak is what truly matters.”
Tallen advised women to support and accommodate others as they rise to leadership positions.
She also said Lagos continued to lead by example in female political participation in Nigeria and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tallen urged the beneficiaries to invest the cash support in sustainable ventures, saying, “The cash provided can be transformed into big enterprises. To everyone receiving support today, do not simply consume it; invest it into business. A woman selling food is an entrepreneur, an investor and an employer.”
She also encouraged women to prepare their daughters for the future by studying science and technology.
Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, focused his address on political accountability, grassroots mobilisation and civic participation. He expressed pride in Senator Adebule for fulfilling her promises to the electorate, noting that the initiative contributes to poverty alleviation and aligns with the party’s development agenda.
Ojelabi also urged beneficiaries and other constituents to remain active in the political process as the election cycle approaches.
He emphasised the importance of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC), urging constituents to collect their cards when ready and participate actively in upcoming elections.
