* Foundation says initiative seeks to ease educational burden on vulnerable families and encourage pupils to remain focused on learning
Asabiqun Care Foundation (ACF) has distributed 10,000 exercise books and 50 customised school bags to indigent pupils across Nigeria and the Republic of Benin under its Back-to-School educational relief programme.
The exercise books were distributed to pupils in public primary schools and other learning institutions across several states, including Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Ogun, Benue, Kaduna, Kano and Niger, as well as Nasarawa, and schools in the Republic of Benin.
In Lagos, more than 500 pupils of Etunrere, Oga and Ayangbure Primary Schools in Ikorodu received between four and five exercise books each during the foundation’s distribution exercise held on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Muslim News gathered that the initiative is aimed at easing some of the educational burden on vulnerable families while providing pupils with essential materials needed for their studies.
Why ACF chose exercise books
Seasoned educationist, life coach and counsellor, Hajia Busurat Adeola Alli, who was present at the Lagos distribution in Ikorodu, said the intervention was conceived to address a basic but important challenge confronting children from financially vulnerable families: access to essential learning materials.
According to her, the Back-to-School programme is part of a wider humanitarian vision pursued by Asabiqun Care Foundation, which seeks to provide care and promote the welfare of indigent and less privileged women and children, as well as support widows and orphans.
She said the foundation also seeks to empower vulnerable groups towards independence and collaborate with organisations and institutions working to improve the welfare of people in need.
Hajia Alli explained that the foundation deliberately targeted pupils in public primary schools and did not restrict the intervention to a particular class, allowing pupils across the beneficiary schools to receive the learning materials.
She said the Lagos distribution alone reached more than 500 pupils at Etunrere, Oga and Ayangbure Primary Schools, with four to five exercise books given to each pupil.
Hajia Alli, a member of the Board of Trustees of Asabiqun Care Foundation, said the distribution was part of the foundation’s wider humanitarian mission of reaching vulnerable members of society and creating opportunities for them to thrive.
From Lagos to the Republic of Benin
Muslim News gathered that the educational relief programme was extended beyond Lagos, with ACF distributing exercise books in different communities across Nigeria.
In Delta State, pupils of Okugbe Primary School, Ekpan, received exercise books from the foundation. In Benue State, exercise books were distributed to pupils in UBE schools in Gboko Central, Gboko, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
In Rivers State, more than 100 pupils of Ozuboko Primary School, Port Harcourt, received four exercise books each on September 15, 2026.
The foundation also reached Al-Mubashir Nursery and Primary School, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Friday, September 18. Five indigent pupils at the school additionally received customised school bags donated by ACF.
In Nasarawa State, the foundation extended the initiative to LEA Primary School, Nyanya Hausawa, where pupils benefited from the distribution. The foundation also reached pupils of Al-Ihsan Frontliner Islamic School, Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of the Back-to-School initiative.
The intervention has also crossed Nigeria’s borders. On Friday, September 18, the foundation distributed 2,500 exercise books to more than 100 pupils at Ecole Primaire Itchain Gbadodo in the Republic of Benin, with each pupil receiving between four and five books.
The distribution forms part of the foundation’s stated commitment to reaching vulnerable people irrespective of their location.
‘Education is part of caring for the vulnerable’
The President of Asabiqun Care Foundation, Hajia Nimatullah AbdulQuadri, said the educational intervention reflected the organisation’s broader commitment to supporting children and other vulnerable members of society.
Hajia AbdulQuadri said the foundation’s work was rooted in the belief that caring for vulnerable people goes beyond providing emergency assistance, stressing the importance of helping beneficiaries build a productive future.
Hajia AbdulQuadri, who is also a former Amirah of Al-Mu’minaat, said supporting children with basic educational materials was one of the practical ways the organisation could contribute to their development and reduce some of the burdens confronting families.
‘A small intervention can make a difference’
The foundation was established by Al-Mu’minaat, the Believing Women Organisation, and its humanitarian activities are focused on supporting indigent women, children, widows, orphans and other vulnerable people.
Its stated vision is to become a foremost institution and global leader in reaching the weak, less privileged and needy, while its mission includes providing humanitarian assistance, economic relief, and moral and spiritual support to vulnerable individuals.
The current Amirah of Al-Mu’minaat, Hajia Jelilat Abdulhamid, also highlighted the importance of supporting children at the point where educational needs arise.
She said the exercise-book distribution was driven by compassion for pupils and a desire to ensure that children from less privileged backgrounds could return to school with some of the basic materials needed for learning.
Hajia Abdulhamid said the foundation was concerned not only about providing immediate relief but also about helping vulnerable children develop the confidence and opportunity needed to pursue their education.
She noted that an exercise book might appear to be a small item, but providing several books to a child could relieve a family’s immediate financial burden and allow the pupil to concentrate on classroom activities.
She said the organisation hoped to expand the initiative and reach more pupils in future editions.
The Amirah expressed appreciation to the foundation’s donors and supporters, praying that Allah would reward them abundantly and accept their contributions as acts of worship.
“Alhamdulillah for the success of the distribution. In total, we distributed 10,000 exercise books and 50 customised school bags to pupils under the Back-to-School initiative,” she noted.
