As preparations for 2025 Eid-al-Adha gather momentum, many affluent Muslims in Nigeria have begun purchasing rams, cows, and other sacrificial animals in anticipation of the annual celebration.
However, for millions of underprivileged Nigerians who cannot afford such luxuries, hope is once again on the horizon—thanks to the Turkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV).
The Turkish humanitarian giant has finalized plans to slaughter 6,000 cows across 11 Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the meat to be distributed among vulnerable and indigent Muslims during the Eid celebration.
Muslim News gathered that the states listed for this year’s distribution include Bauchi, Oyo, Sokoto, Gombe, Kano, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Kogi, Niger, and Jigawa.
The Qurbani project remains one of the hallmark humanitarian initiatives of the Diyanet Foundation, which has consistently demonstrated commitment to alleviating hunger and fostering Islamic brotherhood—not only in Nigeria but across several continents.
The foundation’s longstanding interventions include mosque construction, Ramadan iftar meals, provision of clean water through boreholes, educational scholarships, and even free surgical procedures.
A delegation from Muslim News Nigeria, led by Publisher Rasheed Abubakar, had the rare opportunity to visit the headquarters of the Diyanet Foundation in Ankara, Türkiye, on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The visit coincided with a digital journalism training organized by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in collaboration with Turkiye Radio and Television (TRT), which the Muslim News team also attended.
Before the official visit, the delegation observed the Friday Jumu’ah prayer at the Sheikh Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque—a grand architectural marvel located just behind the Diyanet Foundation’s headquarters and one of Ankara’s largest mosques.
The Muslim News team was warmly received by foundation officials who took them on a guided tour of the facility, including the cafeteria where the delegation enjoyed a sumptuous lunch.
The visit also extended to Diyanet TV, the foundation’s expansive media wing dedicated to Islamic enlightenment and educational programming. The delegation was given a tour of the station’s multiple studios, including a state-of-the-art facility for children’s programming, reflecting the foundation’s mission of “catching them young.”
During the media tour, a discussion on potential collaboration between Muslim News Nigeria and Diyanet TV emerged, signaling promising possibilities for transnational Islamic media partnerships.
Established on March 13, 1975, the Turkiye Diyanet Foundation has grown into one of the world’s foremost humanitarian organisations, carrying out charitable activities in over 149 countries.
From mosque-building and education to healthcare and food distribution, the foundation has touched countless lives without discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, or nationality.
According to official data obtained by Muslim News Nigeria, the Diyanet Foundation has so far constructed 4,121 mosques globally. In 2024 alone, its Qurbani distribution reached 747,052 beneficiaries worldwide.
Additionally, no fewer than 44,130 students benefited from its scholarship and education support programme last year.
In Nigeria, almost 700 applicants have applied for high school and undergraduate education under the Diyanet Foundation in Turkey in 2025.
However, 90 applicants were shortlisted for the interview, and the result of the interview is not yet out. The scholarship has covered everything including flight tickets, accommodation monthly token, and the rest.
