One of Nigeria’s best faith-based schools, At-Tanzeel Schools on Sunday, August 10, 2025 held its 6th valedictory programme and Haflatul Qur’an for 28 graduating students and five memorisers of the Noble Qur’an.
The ceremony held at the Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos celebrated not only academic excellence, resilience, and discipline, but also the timeless beauty, eloquence, and mastery of Qur’anic recitation.
Muslim News gathered that the graduating students completed their secondary school education, with six outstanding achievers recognised for scoring the highest points in their examinations including the 2025 UTME.
They are: Yusuf Mukhtar Mobolaji (323), Yakub AbdulAzeem Olamide (317), Akintola Khalid Akinbola (294), Ekeolere Musa Olamilekan (292), Raji Al-Ameen Olamilekan (288) and Bello Abdullah Abidemi (283).
With the theme “From Learners to Leaders: Shaping Tomorrow with Purpose,” the graduation also honoured five students—four boys and one girl—who have memorised the entire Noble Qur’an in less than two years of joining the school.
They are: Soyoye Al-Amin Desireola, Agbalajobi Oluwajomiloju Qudus, Abdul Mumin Opeyemi AbdulSobur, Olanloye Adewole Mubarak and Ajadi Hameedah Ayomide.
“This is the 2025 set; we call them the ‘Achievers Set’,” said the Head of School, Mr. Ibrahim Sonola, expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah for a successful academic session. “They are 28 in number, and as part of our school policy, we recognised six who scored exceptionally high – one of them scoring above 300 in UTME. They also excelled in WASSCE, and some have already secured admission into universities in Nigeria.”
Speaking further, Mr Sonola said the school has been able to produce a lot of memorizers of the Qur’an, adding that, “Last year, we produced six, and this year, we are producing five, and hopefully, we will produce more.”
He called on the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the school; respect to the law of Allah, and be honest in their dealings. “They should influence the world, have compassion, and spread good news about Islam. Some of our alumni are Imams in their institutions and leaders of MSSN,” he added.
Guest speakers, including Mrs. Kofo Olokun-Olawoyin, Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), and Dr. Adeniyi Zafaran, CEO of Vanguards Academy, spoke on the role of faith-based education in instilling values, fostering resilience, and equipping students for a rapidly changing world.

While speaking on the topic, ‘The Future is Now: Preparing for a Changing World’, Mrs. Olokun-Olawoyin said the graduating students must understand that the future is now and they must start building what they want for their tomorrow from today, using the values and skills they’ve earned throughout their school journey.
According to her, The world is evolving. Things are changing. Technology is making the world become different. The careers that you have today are different from what you had yesterday. Some are fast fading, some are beginning to evolve, and there are some that will push out what we have today. It is not just about knowledge, qualifications or certifications. They need those extra skills of critical thinking, integrity, and values to be able to become relevant and adapt quickly to any change that comes in.”
The LASERC Commissioner commended At-Tanzeel and other faith-based schools for adapting quickly to the emerging technology and exposing their students to new trends while creating a balance.
She, however, warned against the negative effects of the technology, saying that it can harm the users, especially children, if not properly channelled for the right use.
The guest speaker also urged parents and guardians to patronise faith-based schools which she said will help children develop sound religious orientation to navigate today’s fast-evolving world.
“Faith-based schools are actually very encouraged, and that’s because at very young ages, our children are very exposed to faith modalities. It is really important for the kids to become aware of their basic religious tenets and especially in the world of today where you have so many things being thrown at children.
Children are learning from different people, people miles away through their devices. It actually set them right. They are able to understand what their religion really says, which is different from what the world is putting in their head. Faith-based schools are highly encouraged and supported, and they’ve been giving their best in making lasting impact.”

During his presentation, the CEO of Vanguards Academy outlined three key aspects of “Going To The Real World” for the students as they complete their secondary school education.
He said: “In this case, as regards the students, their real world is going to higher institutions, industry, and how they live their lives in the next six to seven years. Also, there are some challenges they will meet in society; from the effect of social media, movies, music to friends influence, and the quest for materialism.
Societal “landmines” identified by Dr. Adeniyi include goalless life, lack of direction despite Allah’s defined journey, peer influence and control, mobile phone misuse, social media addiction, drug abuse, fraudulent activities (“Yahoo Yahoo”), valueless living, no excessive focus on fashion, nudity, zina, pornography, distractions such as music, movies, and skits.
He noted that the students will be able to overcome these challenges if they connect with Allah, remain spiritually “online” with Him; stay connected to one’s base, maintain focus, saying “If you focus on your focus, you will become a focus” and “keep the right company, and connect with good friends as emphasised in the Noble Qur’an 9: 119.”
Collective measure is needed to address negative use of modern day gadgets: Alhaji Adedokun
Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Sulaimon Adedokun, Managing Director of Mersitem Securities Limited, applauded At-Tanzeel Schools for the instilling morals and religious teachings and excellent academic learning on young ones given the declining value of society.
According to him, The growth of any society depends on the kind of institution they have. When value is lost, everything is lost. Without a moral compass to anchor behaviour and guide interactions, people behave in ways that demean others and harm society.
“We need institutions that can bring up people who can relate well with others. We need institutions that can bring up people who are conscious of themselves and others to impact the society. That’s exactly what At-Tanzeel is doing for our young generation.
Alhaji Adedokun stated that Children today are being taken away by social media and other vices in the environment, adding that a collective measure is needed to address this.
“One solution is having institutions like this to bring children together, educate them, and teach them the meaning of value and what needs to be done. Children need to be connected with their Creator as early as possible. Faith-based institutions can provide teaching and upbringing that impact students and, eventually, society, ” he added.
Board Chair congratulates graduands, praises ex-students giant strides
The Board Chairman of the School, Mal Saheed Bashir, in his welcome address, expressed delight in graduating another set of students and memorisers of Qur’an, saying many of their graduates are in different universities within and outside the country.
According to him, “Our focus includes moral and academic development, and moulding a child. We have participated in several competitions and come top. Our first set of students will be leaving university this year, and we are hosting a special dinner to appreciate them.”
Mal Bashir noted that despite the uniqueness of the School with boarding facilities and conducive learning environment, At-Tanzeel Schools is affordable with moderate school fees that do not strain parents financially.
He called on the graduating students to live with the legacy of the Qur’an in their hearts while urging parents to support their children to achieve their goals without distractions of modern gadgets.
“As you graduate today, you carry the Qur’an in your hearts, knowledge in your minds, and values in your actions. May you shine as beacons of guidance and integrity wherever you go.
“Dear parents, in this VUCA – volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity defined-world, your resilience and sacrifices are deeply appreciated. Amidst economic hardship, inflation, and social distraction, you have stayed the course. May Allah continue to bless and reward you abundantly,” he noted.
Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of plaque awards and cash rewards of N250 to outstanding graduands, as well as long-service awards to dedicated staff members.
The event – which also featured the launch of the 164-page Year Book, concluded with prayers and a pledge to nurture graduates who carry the Qur’an in their hearts, knowledge in their minds, and values in their actions.
At-Tanzeel runs three core programmes—Qur’anic studies, Arabic language learning, and Western education—supported by highly motivated staff working in partnership with parents to ensure the very best outcomes for every child. This collaboration has been key to the school’s many successes.
