The beautifully decorated hall of Ikorodu Musical Village, Itamaga, Ikorodu area of Lagos was filled with celebration and joy over the weekend as two distinguished families came together in a colorful and spiritually uplifting ceremony to solemnise the Nikaah of their children, Safiyyah Omorinsola Alimi and Abdurrahman Adewale Abebefe.
On Saturday, September 20, 2025, the families of Alhaji Shamsideen Alimi and Engr. Abdurrazaq Abebefe gathered friends and other esteemed Nigerians to witness the union of their children in a joyous marriage ceremony that honored Islamic tradition and community togetherness.
The elated bride’s mother, Alhaja Nafisat Alimi, is a respected teacher and proprietor of Raodhot School, one of the leading faith-based in Ikorodu; while the groom’s mother, Hajia Bushrah Alli, is a former Ameerah (female president) of Al-Mu’minaat, the Believing Women Organisation.
Muslim News’ Correspondent Zaynab Adesina reported that the colourful event drew friends, relatives, and Islamic dignitaries from far and wide, in their beautiful attires, all eager to celebrate the new couple and witness the solemnisation.

The Aqdun-walimatu-n-nikaah ceremony’s lecture was delivered by Sheikh Dhikrullahi Shafi’i, Grand Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO), who commenced with heartfelt praises to Allah, the Almighty, and reverent salutations upon Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
He spoke extensively on the significance of the Aqd Nikkah, emphasizing that marriage in Islam is not merely a social contract but an act of worship, constituting half of one’s faith.
The respected Muslim scholar highlighted that without the proper solemnization, a marriage would be invalid, children would not be legitimate, and spouses would lack inheritance rights. According to him, a righteous society begins with the family, which serves as the foundation of a good community.
A bond of love for Safiyyah and Abdurrahman
The officiating Imam, Sheikh Bilal Shitt, conducted the solemnisation on behalf of the couple’s fathers. He sought and received the consent of both bride and groom and confirmed the adequacy of the Mahr (dowry).

At precisely 1:05 p.m., the esteemed Muslim scholar formally pronounced Safiyyah and Abdurrahman husband and wife, sparking resounding joy and jubilation among the gathered guests.
Prayers and good wishes abounded as a versatile Muslim scholar, Sheikh Tajudeen Yusuf, a professor of Risk Management and Insurance at the University of Lagos, counseled the couple to center their union on Allah’s guidance, fostering a bond of love, trust, and patience.
Hon. Dr. Abdullateef Abdulhakeem, another popular Muslim scholar and former Chairman, Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) offered heartfelt prayers for the newlyweds, while also taking a moment to urge the audience to remember and support the people of Palestine in their supplications.
Youthful energy takes center stage
Raodhot School pupils infused the wedding ceremony with youthful energy, delivering a captivating choreography performance of Islamic nasheeds that left a lasting impression on the audience, who collectively prayed for the couple, “Barakallahu lakuma wa baraka alaikuma wa jama’a baynakuma fii khair.”
More than just a union
The Nikaah of Safiyyah and Abdurrahman was not just a union of two individuals but also a celebration of family, faith, and community. Interestingly, they are both alumni of Vanguards Academy Old Students’ Association (VAOSA) having graduated from the same alma mater, Vanguards Academy in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Safiyyah belonged to G42 set while Abdurrahman was G41 set and their shared roots made their marriage the 27th ‘VAOSA Combo,’ bringing the total to 53 couples since 2019.
The groom: Abdurrahman Abebefe
Abdurrahman Adewale Abebefe is a young man of distinction with an inspiring academic and professional journey. He graduated with honours in English Language from the University of Lagos. He later earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication and a Master’s degree in English Arts from the same university.
His pursuit of excellence extended overseas, where he completed the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) programme in the UK, becoming a Level 4 Marketing Executive. Currently, Abdurrahman works as a copywriter, content manager, and campaign executive at Pertinence Group, a leading real estate and banking firm in Lagos.

The bride: Safiyyah Alimi
Safiyyah Omorinsola Alimi is a brilliant lawyer and woman of grace. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Law from Osun State University and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. She later advanced her studies at the University of Dundee, Scotland, where she earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Energy Law and Policy with distinction. Known for her warmth, elegance, and kindness, Safiyyah combines professional brilliance with admirable personal qualities.
The Nikaah will be remembered in Ikorodu as a day of joy, spirituality, and the beginning of a new chapter for the young couple, who expressed their deepest appreciation to family and friends for their love and support, feeling grateful for the joyous celebration.
