Saudi Arabia’s Crown and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday performed the funeral prayer for Saudi Arabia’s late Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.

The Royal Court announced earlier in the day that Sheikh Abdulaziz, who also served as head of the Council of Senior Scholars, passed away in Riyadh at the age of 82.

The funeral prayer was held after the Asr prayer, with large numbers of officials, scholars, and citizens in attendance.

In a statement, the Royal Court said: “With the passing of Al-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar who made significant contributions to the service of Islam and Muslims.”

King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed their condolences to the family of the late Grand Mufti, the Saudi people, and the wider Islamic world.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers in absentia were offered for the late Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia after the Asr prayer at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across Saudi Arabia.

Muslim News gathered that this was in line with a directive issued by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

Several regional emirs, deputy emirs, governors, senior officials, scholars and a large number of the faithful attended the prayers. Emir of Madinah Prince Salman bin Sultan was among those who performed prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque. Makkah Deputy Emir Prince Saud bin Mishaal offered the funeral prayer at King Salman Mosque in Jeddah.

Emir of Al-Jouf Prince Faisal bin Nawaf offered the prayer at the King Abdulaziz Mosque in Sakaka while Emir of Al-Qassim Prince Faisal bin Mishaal and Deputy Emir Prince Fahd bin Saad performed the prayer at the Prince Abdul Ilah Mosque in Buraidah.

The worshipers prayed to God Almighty to shower the deceased with His abundant mercy and forgiveness, and to grant him a high place in Paradise, and to reward him for the great services he rendered to his nation as well as to the Islamic and Arab world.
