A brilliant young Muslimah, Nusaybah Abdul-Akeem, a student of Iwerekun Community Senior High School, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, has emerged winner of the prestigious 2025 HACEY Creative Writing Competition.
Representing Education District III, Nusaybah’s literary talent earned her the top spot in the national competition organised by HACEY Health Initiative, a Nigerian NGO committed to empowering women, girls, and youth.
Muslim News gathered that she received a dummy cheque of N300,000, a brand-new laptop, and a certificate of participation.
Her winning prose, titled “Menstrual Health Stigma: Breaking the Silence,” tells the powerful story of a young girl in a rural village where menstruation is shrouded in taboo.
The narrative shifts when a city-based aunt visits and begins to educate the community, debunking myths and encouraging open conversations around menstrual health.
The story promotes dignity, confidence, and pride in girls during their menstrual cycle, challenging shame and stigma.
The Lagos State Government celebrated her achievement via its official social media channels on Monday, October 20, 2025.
