* Condemns rising abductions and killings across Nigeria
* Urges decisive action at federal, state and grassroots levels
The Pure Heart Islamic Foundation of Nigeria has called on the Federal and State Governments to treat the worsening state of insecurity across the country as a national emergency, warning that continued inaction threatens lives, education, worship, and the economy.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Mal. Ibrahim Balogun, the Foundation condemned recent waves of abductions, killings, and violence across regions, urging authorities to act decisively at all levels, including the grassroots.
He stated that the continued vulnerability of schools, campuses, mosques, churches, farmers, traders, and entire communities indicates that insecurity is no longer a regional issue but a national emergency requiring coordinated, serious, and sustained responses.
Mal Balogun insisted that the government must not create or sustain an environment where criminality becomes profitable while innocent citizens continue to suffer.
He noted that negotiating with terrorists has consistently proven counterproductive, as paying ransoms or legitimizing criminal groups only encourages more kidnappings, fuels impunity, and erodes public trust in state institutions.
The student group further called on political leaders to treat security as a sacred national responsibility, warning that it must never be exploited for partisan advantage or used as a campaign tool, saying that the safety and dignity of Nigerians are not bargaining chips.
“Political actors must demonstrate maturity, seriousness, and sincerity in addressing insecurity, as the stakes involve lives, social stability, and the nation’s future. Any attempt to politicize national security, it added, should be firmly rejected,” he noted.
Mal Balogun also rejected attempts to portray Nigeria’s insecurity as a religiously targeted campaign against Christians, describing such narratives as misleading and dangerous.
According to him, “Criminals target everyone. Mosques have been attacked, Muslim students and youths have been kidnapped and killed. Terrorists, bandits and kidnappers are not defenders of any faith. They are enemies of humanity, driven by criminality, warped ideology, greed and power.”
The Foundation also stressed that promoting divisive religious sentiments only fuels distrust and weakens national unity against insecurity.
Addressing the role of religious and community leaders, Mal Balogun urged them to actively promote vigilance, protect places of worship and events, and prevent youth radicalization, saying “Religion must never be weaponized. It should serve as a force for peace, compassion and justice.”
He also encouraged Nigerians to remain alert, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with lawful security efforts.
“Security is a collective duty. Every Nigerian must remain vigilant, report suspicious actions and cooperate with lawful security initiatives. Criminal networks thrive where communities
are silent or divided.
“Nigeria must therefore reject any agenda that seeks to further fracture an already polarized society. By fostering trust, alertness and communal responsibility, we can protect lives and prevent recurring tragedies,” he said.
The Foundation concluded by charging its members in schools and on campuses nationwide to stay vigilant and continue seeking Allah’s protection while contributing positively to national stability.
