In a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global Halal economy, the Halal and Agrofood Compliance Certification Services (HACCS) has successfully completed a six-month intensive training and induction programme for aspiring Halal auditors.
Experts have long emphasized that for countries like Nigeria to fully benefit from the booming global Halal market, there must be sustained investment in human capital, particularly in training professionals who can ensure compliance with Halal standards.
HACCS’ latest initiative aligns with this objective by equipping local professionals with the skills needed to thrive in the Halal auditing space.
The comprehensive training, held monthly over six months, covered critical areas such as Halal auditing procedures, food safety systems, Halal Assurance Systems (HAS), Islamic compliance principles, and adherence to both local and international Halal certification standards.
More than 50 participants from across Nigeria took part in the programme, gaining hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks and auditing procedures.
Facilitators included renowned experts from Malaysia and Nigeria with extensive industry experience in Halal certification, regulatory compliance, and food safety. The trainers provided a balance of theoretical instruction and practical case studies to ensure the participants were prepared to operate both locally and globally.
Following a rigorous final stage that included on-site and simulation auditing presentation, followed by professional assessments, 13 participants were successfully inducted as Certified Halal Auditors under HACCS. An additional 20 participants were awarded certificates of attendance.
Reaffirms commitment to Nigeria’s halal economy
Speaking at the induction ceremony, Dr. Muhideen Amusa, CEO of HACCS, praised the participants for their commitment and discipline.
He urged the newly certified auditors to uphold professionalism, integrity, and excellence in discharging their responsibilities, noting that these values are essential to maintaining the credibility of Nigeria’s Halal industry.
Dr. Amusa stressed that human capital development remains a non-negotiable pillar for the sustainable growth of the Halal sector in the country.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Sakirudeen Ajani emphasized the need for continuous professional development among Halal auditors.
He encouraged the inductees to familiarize themselves with Nigeria’s Halal ecosystem and regulatory bodies such as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), as well as international frameworks like the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC).
Also speaking, Dr. Saheed Ashafa and Associate Professor Muinat Kazeem, two of the newly inducted auditors, expressed their gratitude to HACCS for offering the training free of charge. They called on their peers to actively contribute to the credibility and growth of Nigeria’s Halal industry.
Dr. Monsuru Salisu, Executive Consultant to HACCS, commended the facilitators and participants for their dedication throughout the programme. He urged the new auditors to become ambassadors of quality and compliance, ensuring that Halal-certified products from Nigeria consistently meet global standards.
Dr. Salisu also encouraged local producers and manufacturers to embrace Halal certification, highlighting that Halal is not only a religious or ethical standard but also a competitive market brand with global recognition.
The training programme and subsequent induction of auditors mark another significant step in HACCS’s drive to build capacity, promote ethical practices, and position Nigeria as a reliable player in the fast-growing global Halal economy.
