* Scholars urge couple to anchor union on faith and companionship

Faoziah Adesola Lawal, an Economist with ACA in view, has tied the knot with AbdulAfeez Babatunde Kewulere, an Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate and practicing Software Engineer, in a solemn Nikaah ceremony marked by prayers, counsel and the presence of eminent Islamic scholars and dignitaries, Muslim News Nigeria reports.
Prominent Islamic scholars, education administrators, community leaders and family members converged on Anwarul Islam College Hall, Agege, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, as the former Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, Hajia Sekinah Temitope Lawal, gave her daughter’s hand in marriage in a solemn and well-attended Nikaah ceremony marked by prayers, counsel and celebration.
The Aqdu -n- Nikaah joined Faoziah Adesola Lawal and AbdulAfeez Babatunde Kewulere in matrimony, with Muslim scholars urging the couple to build a home firmly anchored on faith, companionship and shared responsibility.
The guest lecturer, Sheikh Saheed Salman, Deputy Registrar of Yaba College of Technology and Mudir of Madrasat Sahwatul Islamiyah, Iwaya, Lagos, congratulated both families for conducting the Nikaah in strict accordance with Islamic teachings.
He admonished the couple to continually direct their affairs to Allah and consciously nurture companionship by sleeping, talking, eating, praying and even playing together, stressing that such closeness would leave no room for Shaytan in their marriage.
Chaired by Alhaji Musbaudeen Bolarinwa, founder of Misbaudeen Islamic Centre and Director of Silver Feeds Nigeria Limited, the Nikaah was officiated by a renowned Muslim scholar and CEO, AS & Associates, Dr. Abdullah Shuaib, who formally pronounced AbdulAfeez Babatunde Kewulere and Faoziah Adesola Lawal as husband and wife.
In line with the Islamic principle of documenting marriage contracts, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, issued and witnessed the signing of a marriage certificate by the couple, which was formally presented to them by the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Engr. Ibrahim Abdul.
Parents and family background
Muslim News gathered that a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jide Jimoh, stood in for the bride’s father, late Hon. Ibrahim Adebayo Lawal, a former local government councillor in Agege and a diligent businessman known for his humility, integrity and deep love for his family.
The bride’s mother is not only the former NAWOJ Lagos Chairperson, she is a veteran journalist and Muslim media ambassador to several organisations including the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN).
She is a Board of Trustees member, Methodist High School Old Students Association, BOT member, BASAM Orphan Foundation, BOT member, Media Career Services, BOT member, Pristine Cactus Foundation, National Secretary, Network of Reproductive Health Editors of Nigeria, among others.
She is also a Brand Ambassador, PHYTOSCIENCE PLANT-BASED STEMCELL REGENERATIVE THERAPY. She is a registered distributor with Phytoscience Stemcell Company, Switzerland and Malaysia.
The groom’s father is an Imam and Grand Muqaddam at Ojoku Central Mosque in Kwara State and a member of the Tijaniyyah order.
The ceremony was concluded with prayers for a peaceful, faith-filled and enduring union.
Top Islamic leaders, dignitaries grace Nikaah
His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and President of The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, while the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Isiaq Oloyede, was represented by Alhaji Najeem Jimoh and two other senior staff members at JAMB.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy President of MUSWEN, Alhaji Wale Sonaike; representatives of Kwara State University led by the representative of the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Aliyu Uthman AbdulKadir, Abu Mazeedatil Khayr Abdur Rauf Bn Sa’eed, members of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Lagos State Chapter; as well as several scholars, professionals and community leaders who witnessed the solemnisation.
Newlyweds speak on faith, love and gratitude
Speaking with Muslim News, the newlyweds described their feelings as a deep sense of gratitude, love and emotional security, saying they are thankful to Allah and happy to walk life’s journey together.
They revealed that faith guided their hearts throughout the process, with full support from both families, noting that consistent prayers helped them gain clarity and submit to the will of Allah.
The couple expressed joy and appreciation to their families and friends, giving special thanks to Dr. Islamiyyah Usman (the groom’s sister), the bride’s mother, her siblings and other relatives for their vital roles and unwavering support. They said their marriage would be built on trust, loyalty, respect and honesty.
Advising young people preparing for marriage, the couple urged them to hand over their affairs to Allah, seek divine guidance, choose each other’s happiness repeatedly, remain true to themselves and maintain pure intentions of worshipping Allah alone.

Hajia Sekinah Lawal urged the new couple to put their trust in Allah, keep loving and appreciating each other and always see their marriage as an act of ibadah.
