* Gov AbdulRazaq condemns attack as Tinubu orders army deployment to Kaiama
The Kwara State Government has confirmed that at least 75 residents, mostly Muslims, were killed when suspected terrorists attacked Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
According to Rauf Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the assailants struck the communities on Tuesday evening, killing residents who he described as moderate Muslims for allegedly refusing to submit to extremists preaching what he termed “a strange doctrine.”
Speaking on ARISE News Morning Show on Thursday, the community head, Alhaji Salihu Bio Umar, said about 95 per cent of the casualties were Muslims, explaining that the attack was a direct reaction to the community’s rejection of extremist teachings.
“They bombed almost half of the village, including my house. Apart from the 75 bodies that have been recovered and buried, we have information that some corpses are still in the bush,” he said.
Ajakaye said the governor arrived in Kaiama on Wednesday night alongside service chiefs and key cabinet members to commiserate with the affected communities and carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation.

He disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate deployment of an army battalion to the area to prosecute counter-offensive operations under a special security operation codenamed “Operation Savannah Shield.”
The CPS noted that Governor AbdulRazaq had earlier condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly assault on innocent civilians, and assured residents of the government’s resolve to restore peace and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command, through its spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that the attack began around 6pm on Tuesday, adding that security agencies had been deployed to the affected communities. She said investigations were ongoing, with reports of missing persons still being verified.

The state government believes the attack may be a desperate attempt by terror elements to divert security attention from ongoing counterterrorism operations in parts of the state.
