President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and CEO of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on 11 February 2026.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate, in line with section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.
Muslim News gathered that the nomination comes just days after the resignation of the immediate past chairman, Professor Saleh Usman, who served for around 14 months.
In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu requested the Senate’s expeditious confirmation of Ambassador Yusuf to assume leadership of the commission.
Ambassador Yusuf is a seasoned career diplomat, having served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.
His extensive diplomatic experience is expected to bring strategic leadership to NAHCON as it prepares for upcoming Hajj operations.
