The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) and the Lagos State chapter of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) have congratulated Deputy Alhaji Thabit Wale Sonaike and his wife, Alhaja Bilikis Tokunbo Sonaike, on their recent turbaning at Akoka Central Mosque, Akoka, Lagos State.
Alhaji Thabit Sonaike, who also serves as Vice President II of MUSWEN, was honoured alongside his wife with the prestigious titles of Baba Adinni and Iya Sunnah, in recognition of their decades-long dedication to Islam and humanitarian service.
Muslim News earlier reported that the turbaning ceremony took place on Sunday, 1 February 2026, at the Nigerian Army Sports Centre, Somolu, and was attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria, including MUSWEN President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo.
In a congratulatory message signed by Alhaji Oladejo and Executive Secretary, Professor Wole Abbas, MUSWEN hailed the couple for their commitment to the Muslim Ummah:
“Alhaji Thabit Wale Sonaike and his wife are renowned for their service and dedication to the cause of Islam and the Ummah. We are therefore not surprised that the Akoka Central Mosque found them worthy of the titles of Baba Adinni and Iya Sunnah respectively.
” We pray Allah to grant them long life, good health, wisdom, and all the wherewithal to shoulder the responsibilities that come with these titles,” the statement read.
Similarly, MURIC Lagos State Chairman, Dr. Busari Jamiu Muhammad Ademola, praised the couple for their selfless service:
“The Baba Adinni of Akoka is a seasoned banker, Muslim leader, philanthropist, and a devoted Muslim who has expended his entire life and wealth on the cause of Islam and humanity. His turbaning and that of his wife is a testimony to their decades of selfless service.”
He further prayed for their continued success and steadfastness:
“We congratulate them and pray that Almighty Allah will grant them good health, protection, and wealth to continue their good works in the service of Islam and humanity.
MURIC also urges Alhaji and Alhaja Sonaike to remain steadfast, to uphold the rope of Allah and continue their religious endeavours.”
