* Directs Imams nationwide to begin Qunootun-Nawazil prayers
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called for urgent and collective action to address worsening insecurity in Nigeria, describing the situation as increasingly alarming.
The Sultan made the call in a message marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448, as he urged citizens, religious leaders, and security agencies to work together to stabilise the country.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary-General of JNI, Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, the monarch noted that Nigeria’s security challenges require sincere reflection and renewed commitment to national peace and unity.
He stressed the need for collective responsibility in confronting insecurity, calling on Nigerians to “look inward and rededicate ourselves to Allah while working together with relevant security agencies to stabilise the nation.”
As part of spiritual intervention, the Sultan directed Imams across the country to commence Qunootun-Nawazil, a special supplication performed during times of calamity and distress.
He also urged Muslims to dedicate the first Friday congregational prayers of the new Islamic year, scheduled for June 19, to fervent prayers for peace and divine intervention in Nigeria.
The Sultan’s message comes amid rising concerns over kidnappings, banditry, insurgency, and other violent crimes in different parts of the country.
