The efforts and general response of the government against the coronavirus pandemic seem to be outmuscled by the spike in the number of the infection as Nigeria’s Covid-19 cases exceeded the 10,000 threshold.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Sunday, May 31, announced fresh 307 cases across 15 states.
Without any iota of doubt, the virus is now officially confirmed in 35 out of the 36 states of the federation with Kogi coming behind lately after weeks of denials by the Yahaya Bello-led government.
Meanwhile, Lagos as the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria continues to take its place as the state led the pack with 188 new cases in the Sunday report.
Close behind the southwest state on the list is the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 44 cases. Ogun followed with 19, Kaduna 14 and Oyo 12.
Bayelsa has 9 new cases, Gombe has 5, both Kano and Delta states have 3 cases each. Imo, Rivers, Niger, Bauchi have two cases each while Plateau and Kwara closed the log with one case each.
In total, 10,162 cases of coronavirus have now been officially reported. 3,007 recoveries are now on record while fatality figure stands at 287.
On Saturday, May 30, NCDC announced 553 new cases of Covid-19, which is the highest in a single day since the outbreak of the virus in Nigeria.
Cross River is the state that has not reported any case. This is contradictory to the report by the NCDC that the infection will spread across all states.
