The National Mosque, Abuja and all other mosques in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are open for congregational Jum’ah services today, as well as daily prayers, Muslim News can confirm.
This is coming against the backdrop of the Federal Government’s directive easing the shutdown on religious centers across the country with strict adherence to safety protocols and state’s peculiarities.
Abuja has the second highest cases of COVID-19 in the league of states in Nigeria. The total number of confirmed cases in Abuja according to a report by the NCDC as at June 18, 2020 stands at 1,451.
Dr Muhammad Kabir Adam of the National Mosque, Abuja confirmed this development to Muslim News, saying that the first Jum’ah was conducted last week Friday.
“So, today will be the second Friday after the lockdown placed on religious gathering by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19,” he added.
Recall that as a precautionary measure against the spread of the novel Coronavirus, all places of worship had been under lock and key since March, with other social gatherings banned. However, places of worship have since resumed service accordingly in Abuja.
The Abuja Muslim community are therefore advised to put in place all COVID-19 precautions and ensure total compliance from faithful who would be coming to the mosques for Jum’ah and daily solawah.
Some of the safety measures include hand washing with soap, use of nose mask and social distancing, among others.
