Ileya: Foundation plans to distribute 60 cows, 60 camels, 190 rams, 250 goats, seeks support for needy Muslims

As Muslims across the world gear up for the 1441 Eid-ul-Adha, a Non-Governmental Organisation, Fourteenth Moon Foundation (FMF) has launched its ‘Ileya Eat The Ram Initiative’ to feed the needy Muslims during the festival.

Muslim News learnt that the Foundation has concluded plans to procure 60 camels, 60 cows, 190 rams and 250 goats during this year’s Eid-ul-Adha, slated tentatively for Friday, July 31, 2020.

The meat rations, we reliably gathered, will be distributed across 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.

The Director of the FMF, Alhaji Qasim Badrudeen said the initiative, which started in 2016 is aimed at assisting the indigent Muslims during the festival that will be celebrated worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a chat with Muslim News, Alhaji Badrudeen said there is a need for the Foundation to scale up the number of beneficiaries during this year’s distribution.

According to him, “Many Nigerians are really undergoing economic constraints in this country and this is due to the COVID-19 lockdown which has had great effects on every sector of human endeavour.

“At the Foundation, we thought of what to do to assist them. During the just concluded Ramadan fast, we embarked on a special fundraiser and got money from some committed Muslims to buy foodstuff, chicken and cash gifts. Alhamdulillah, we were able to put smiles on the faces of some Muslim homes during the last Eid-ul-Fitr.

“As the Eid-ul-Adha is fast approaching, we decided to launch our ‘Ileya Eat The Ram Initiative’, which we started four years ago with the distribution that covered 120 homes.

“This year, we plan to procure and distribute 60 camels, 60 cows, 190 rams and 250 goats. We are using this medium to call on wealthy, well-meaning and committed Muslims to assist this course to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the less privileged members of our society.
