Prominent Muslim professionals, scholars and religious organisations will on Saturday, December 1, 2018 converge in Lagos for the launch of two books on Islam and the media.
The two books, titled “Media Narratives of Muslims in Nigeria: Truths and Fallacies” and “Islam and Modern Vices: Issues and Concerns in the News”, were written by Mr. Rasheed Abubakar, a columnist with Daily Independent newspaper and the Publisher of Muslim News Nigeria.

In a statement, the Chairman, Planning Committee of the book launch, Mallam Tajudeen AbdusSalaam said a creme of dignitaries will besiege the Islamic Centre Hall of the University of Lagos to honour the writer and columnist.

AbdusSalaam, who is also the Bureau Chief, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Southwest Office in Osogbo, Osun State said the third and fourth publications of the “Islam and the Media” series were published and promoted under the stables of Rawshield Publishing Ltd, a subsidiary of RawshieldPR Company, a media establishment owned by the author.
“Slated for Saturday, December 1, 2018, the two books will be reviewed by an eminent professor of communication from the University of Abuja, Professor Taofeeq AbdulAzeez and Professor AbdurRasaq Kilani of the University of Port Harcourt, under the Chairmanship of Professor Lai Olurode, Chairman, UNILAG Muslim Community.

“A veteran journalist, Alhaji Liad Tella; the Director of MPAC, Alhaji Disu Kamor and Chairman, NUJ Lagos Council, Dr. Qasim Akinremi will be on ground to discuss the main thrust of the books – misrepresentation of Islam and Muslims in the media”, he said.

“There will also be a brain-storming session and presentations on biased media reportage of Islam and Muslims, with relevant examples from the books.
“Other guests will be unveiled as the event gets closer”, AbdusSalam added.
