In an exclusive interview with Muslim News, Imam Shuaib, who hails from Edo state, expressed his happiness saying that, it is the joy of every parent to see their matured children become responsible in order to build a Muslim home.
In his words, he said “It is one of the dreams of every parent that when their children come of age, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and financially, it is wise to leave bachelorhood or spinsterhood to become a ‘responsible’ man or woman with the intention of building a Muslim home (he smiles). It is a thing of delight for every parent.”
“Hence, for me, the feeling isn’t different from that of my elders, who had done what I am about to do for my daughter, for their children. We can only pray to Allah to give us the wherewithal and ability to stage a successful nikaah for my first daughter, Safiyyah and her husband to be, Ahmed.”
When asked about how he feels, the respected Islamic scholar noted that it was a mixed feeling having his daughter far away from him.
“Incidentally, one of my daughters sent me a message few days ago, asking about my feeling, especially that my first daughter would leave me. It took me some time to reply her that it is a mixed feeling. I am happy that we are doing this for her because apart from the fact that it is a call to duty, it is also one of the things we do for the sustainability of human race.”
“Though I am sad because when I sleep and wake up, I won’t see her around again. She would be far away, in her husband’s house,”
He recalled what one of his daughters told him recently. ‘Daddy, don’t forget, there are about four of us’. I was like, wow. It’s true and it’s going to be a very painful exit. One by one, they would be exiting to their respective husbands’ houses and I won’t be seeing them again at home.
“But truly, that’s the reality. It’s an indication of the proceedings of the day of Resurrection. It is a signpost of the day of Judgement. Those things will deplete gradually and you have no choice, you just have to be contented with it because for every father, he will love to see his son and daughter always but the reality is, they’ll leave you one day, to start a family of their own.
“Deep down. It is a thing of joy because my parents also paid the price and it’s my turn to do the same. I have to pay it handsomely for a handsome reward. The countdown has begun. Family and friends are counting down with us. We need their supplications. May Allah make it a blessed union and make it a successful and everlasting one for my daughter and her husband to be”, he said further.
Oh Allah, let this couple (Safiyyah and Ahmed) be helpers and protectors of one another, let them be refuge and comfort to each other, let them be beautiful garments for each other, and let them experience the many treasures and beauties of marriage.
Masha Allah
