Halal Certification Authority certifies GB Foods permissible for consumption

After months of inspection and assessment, Conserveria Africana Limited (GB Foods) products whose range of food products include Bama Mayonaise, Jago Milk, Gino, Pomo etc have been declared and certified ‘Halal’ by the Halal Certification Authority (HCA).

The event climaxed with the presentation of Halal Certificates and Halal Label Order at the company’s Head Office in Gbagada, Lagos, confirmed the company’s products permissible for consumption in line with the Islamic Shari’a law.

This feat, makes it the 12th certification recorded by the Halal Certification giant in Nigeria.

GB Foods is a Multinational Food Processing Company that has on its product line brands like: Bama Mayonaise, Jago Milk, Gino, and Pomo.

According to the HCA Chairman, Ibrahim Oreagba, a Professor of Pharmacology Therapeutics and Toxicology at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, who disclosed that the certification came after rigorous process of laboratory confirmation tests.

“After critical inspection of the production line by our team of Internationally Certified Auditors, we obtained samples then carried out primary and secondary laboratory confirmatory tests, we can confirm that GB Foods products have satisfied all conditions for Halal and are hereby confirmed fit and permissible for human consumption in line with Islamic Sharia’ Law.”

A Deputy Director at the Federal Institute for Industrial Research Oshodi (FIRRO) and Secretary General of HCA, Dr Sakirdeen Ajani, in his remarks, substantiated the HCA Chairman’s stance by stating that: “Empirical findings by our team of auditors was submitted to the Council of Scholars of HCA, and having carefully examined those findings, we can authoritatively confirm that the GB Foods product is prepared based on acceptable standards in Islam hence, free from impurity, and therefore lawful for consumption in line with Islamic laws.”

“Halal Certification is an integral part of human life, especially Muslims. It gives assurance and confirmation of purity of what we consume as a people and as Muslims in particular.

“With a population of over 2 billion Muslims in the world, we cannot but be conscious of what is within the ambit of Sharia’ with regards to what we eat and drink,” he remarked.

In his Goodwill statement, the MD/CEO of GB Foods, represented by the Factory Manager, Mr Arun, noted that GB Foods appreciates the services rendered by Halal Certification Authority (HCA), remarked that he is optimistic that with this certification the products will gain more brand loyalty and penetration of the market.

Included in the HCA entourage were Imam Sherifdeen Ibrahim and Imam Jamiu Tirmidhi, both members of the HCA Council of Scholars, and also the HCA’s Lead Auditor, Mr Abdul Azeez Ajala.
