As the world marks the 2020 World Press Freedom Day, Nigeria’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper, Muslim News, has been applauded for its unassailable efforts against Islamophobia and the propagation of Islam through the media.
The accolade, which came from renowned scholar of Mass Communication at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Dr Ganiyu Mutiu Adekunle in his appreciation message, noted that the media outlet has filled the information vacuum which has been created for years, for it’s timely, objective and balanced reportage and analysis.
The World Press Freedom Day is a day set aside to celebrate the spirit of journalism and to pay gratitude to those journalists who lost their lives in order to bring us honest and actual news about happenings locally, nationally and internationally.
The theme of this year’s #WPFD20 is Journalism without fear or favour.
The Varsity Don said, “I commend your efforts in propagating Islam through the media. Muslim News has actually filled an information vacuum as it presents factual, halal, timely news from an Islamic point of view and best traditions of our Prophet. May Allah reward you more.
“As someone who is actively involved in academic, professional & practical (publishing) aspects of Journalism, I know the odds that are stacked against you. But, Alhamdulilah, Allah is exponentially higher than your challenges. He’ll not stop sending helpers to you.”
Dr Ganiyu further urged the outlet not to rest on its oars and deviate from its laudable objectives regardless of whatever challenges come its way.
“I urge you not to relent. In shaa Allah, your reward here and Hereafter is guaranteed. Please, don’t relent & never deviate from your laudable vision. Trudge on more and soar higher,” he added.
Abdul Waheed Shotonwa
I had a little interest in journalism despite the fact that am a pharmacist. Indeed some of my works were published, so I had an idea of how difficult it could be to cover a story or publish an opinion.
You’re our pride MN, keep doing well. May Allah support you and single you out of the ocean of the westernized mainstream media in Nigeria.
Ameen.
