Sheikh Ahmad Olayiwola Kamaldeen el-Adabiy, fourth Grand Mufti of Ilorin and Khalifatul Adabiyya has reportedly passed on in Ilorin, the Kwara state Capital in the early hours of June, 12, 2020.
His death was announced in a statement obtained by Muslim News, which was confirmed by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and other multiple sources.
Muslim News also confirmed that his remains have since been buried at his ancestral residence in Okekere, Ilorin, 4pm, yesterday, with wide attendance at the Janazah proceedings.
Sheikh Olayiwola was the son of a great Islamic scholar, late Sheikh Kamaldeen el-Adabiy, who was also the first Mufti of the Ilorin Emirate.
Muslim News also learnt that he was a former Commissioner for Education in Kwara State.
The statement shared by Alhaji Kunle Sanni, the Chairman of Oyo State Muslim Community, reads:
“Ina lillah waina ilaehi rojihun. We announce the death of our father, the fourth Grand Mufti of Ilorin, Alhaj Ahmad Olayiwola Kamal who died on Friday 12th of June. A son of the great Islamic scholar Fadilat Sheikh Kamaldeen Adhabiya. He was a fantastic Muslim, a consummate and an exemplary Jihadist.
“He was a former Commissioner for Education in kwara state who impacted enormously on the Muslim Ummah. He was the architect of the use of Islamic calendar in Nigeria in collaboration with Professor Nurudeen Alao, erstwhile vice chancellor of the University of Lagos. Let us remember him in our prayers. May Allah blot out his sins and admit him to Jannat Firdaous.”
