Leaders of Muslim organisations in Nigeria have showered accolades on Muslim News, Nigeria’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper as it celebrates its second anniversary of existence.
The medium, created in August 2018, was founded to serve as a mouthpiece for Muslim achievers and Islamic events while covering the gap of bias reportage tilted against the Muslims.
Reviewing its operations two years down the line, top religious leaders and scholars passed a vote of confidence on the medium that has trumpeted Islamic events, achievements and stories overtime.
It has performed exceedingly well in the last two years – Prof. Kilani
In his own remark, a professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Port Harcourt, Prof AbdurRazaq Kilani said that Muslim News has performed exceedingly well in the last two years despite the disabling environment it operates in.
He, however, urged that more needed to be done to completely fill the vacuum of media bias in Nigeria, saying it is impossible to fill the vacuum just within two years by a lone Muslim News.
“Muslim News has performed creditably well in providing information on Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims in a challenging environment,” he said.
“To a large extent it has filled the vacuum but more need to be done. More need to be done to cover many areas in Nigeria by having more dedicated correspondents. The media bashing of Muslims has been on for more than a century and it is impossible to correct that within two years and by Muslim News alone.”
The Scholar, who is also the Chief Imam of a popular Islamic group, Al-Usrah, expressed his satisfaction on the agenda currently being pursued by the medium, stating however that sustainability is key to expand the reach of the organisation.
“The agenda currently being pursued by Muslim News to me is adequate for now.
“Broadening the agenda without necessary capital to pursue them may hinder the medium from optimizing its potentials. Awareness creation is being done and that should be sustained in order to expand the reach of Muslim News.”
