Leaders of Muslim organisations in Nigeria have showered accolades on Muslim News, Nigeria’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper as it celebrates its second anniversary of existence.
The medium, created in August 2018, was founded to serve as a mouthpiece for Muslim achievers and Islamic events while covering the gap of bias reportage tilted against the Muslims.
Reviewing its operations two years down the line, top religious leaders and scholars passed a vote of confidence on the medium that has trumpeted Islamic events, achievements and stories overtime.
It is serving as an alternative voice for the Muslim Ummah – Imam Shuaib
The Executive Director of Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation, Imam Dr. Abdullahi Shuaib commended the efforts of Muslim News in the last two years, noting that it’s serving as an alternative voice for the Muslim Ummah.
Dr. Shuaib also averred that the medium is doing great in filling the vacuum of media bias in the country, citing a ‘Fact Check’ report on the demography of Muslim and Christian population in Nigeria recently carried out by the medium to corroborate his view.
In his words: “Alhamdulillah so far, Muslim News has been doing well in terms of its reportage especially giving its readers alternative and more balanced reporting of events without prejudice. Today, the Ummah has a voice albeit much has not been done by the Muslims to support the cause of the medium.
“Without mincing words or any form of exaggeration, Muslim News has not only been an alternative voice for the majority of Muslims in the country, but has been exposing the fake journalism that some of the mainstream media are known for.
“Recently, one of the vibrant electronic media outfits that I so much like, in fact, it is my first choice of media for news, was found wanting by allowing one of its reporters to dish out a fake data claiming that Nigeria is a predominantly Christian country. I was worried with that kind of fake data coming from the TV station. First as a researcher, I knew it was a fake news and very unfortunate that the Producer of the Program could not correct such a daylight fallacy.
“Alhamdulillah that Muslim News took the bull by its horn to deflate such a fictitious lie by doing a Fact Check on the demography of Muslim and Christian population in Nigeria citing several national and international references to back up its rejoinder.
To that extent, one has no doubt whatsoever, that Muslim News has filled the vacuum as well as changed the narratives of junk journalism to professional journalism; exposed few of the mainstream media outfits’ surreptitious evangelistic tendencies and attacks of Islamic symbols and Muslims most especially in the Southern region of the country. Kudos to Muslim News for a job well done.”
He urged the medium to focus more on research and economic news stories, just as he advised that the South-eastern and South-southern regions of the country be given a voice to express their views.
“First and foremost, Muslim News should focus more on research with a view to promoting professional journalism with zero tolerance for unbalanced reportage no matter whose ox is gored.
“Secondly, the media should have a look at the economy of the country and also avail its readers of news updates and analysis of events happening in the economic sector of the country and thirdly, improve on the local contents of its outfits to cover South-east and South-south regions of the country among others.”
