• Why we made him the Mufti of Yorubaland
• The appointment is in line with our mission – New Grand Mufti
Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi has appointed the National President of Jama’at Ta’awunil Muslimeen, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan as the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland.
This was disclosed on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in a letter presented to him by the Oluwo in his palace.
According to the statement released by the Organisation, the step taken by Oluwo, who is also considered as the Emir Of Yorubaland would assist the ongoing formation of Islamic structure in Yorubaland, which its ideology is being championed by Taawun President with the help of Sheikh Yahqub Abdul Baaqi, the Wazeer of Yorubaland.
“Both are relentlessly working together to ensure unity among Yoruba Muslims and creating an Islamic front for the revival of Yoruba Islam,” the statement added.
Muslim News findings revealed that the coronation ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the palace of the Oluwo in Iwo, Osun State. Time is 10:00am
Why he was made the Mufti – Oluwo
Addressing his supporters shortly after the presentation of certificate to the newly designated Mufti of Yorubaland, Oba Akanbi said he has the authority to give titles to any Muslim being the only Muslim king in Yorubaland.
According to him, “I’ve said it that the title of my palace is different from that of other Imams. We have Ahmadiyyah, The Muslim Congress, Muslim Community, United Imams and League of Imams. They make their own titles. I am the only Muslim king and a king of the town of scholars. Iwo is a town of scholars. The king in such community must be able to give titles of a Muslim.
“We have established that since the title of Waziri (of Yorubaland in 2018, which was bestowed on Sheikh Yahqub Abdul Baaqi). In the whole of Yoruba land, I am the only king that gives titles of Islam. Those titles cover the whole of Yorubaland, because there’s no other king that does so. Any king that wants to, will do that after me, because we are the leaders of Islam in Yorubaland.
“Ilorin knows they are nowhere close by and they have said they are not part of Yorubaland. So, they do not dispute it with Iwo. Ilorin and Offa have claimed to be part of Arewa. So, I am the only King that coronates the title of Islam in Yorubaland. Any title given covers the whole of Yorubaland. This title is given by the king. Visit the Hausa land, who gives the title of Waziri, Grand Khadi, Grand Mufti? It’s the king”, he emphasised.
Speaking on, he, however affirmed the power to appoint anyone to any position lies in the hand of Allah.
“By the will of Allah, the one, whom we are under His control, I don’t have a boss nor do I fear anyone. I have just a boss. If I were to be an Alfa, I would have those I fear, but the position I occupy, the only one boss I have is the Lord that appointed me, who we can’t see. I am not the king, Allah is. I am only a slave and I will continue to deliver His message. I’m not even His deputy,” he added.
The appointment is in line with our mission – New Grand Mufti
In his acceptance speech, the new Grand Mufti of Yorubaland affirmed the acceptance of the appointment is in accordance with the mission of his organisation.
He also noted that the office would be used to channel a new path for the Yoruba Muslims and Nigeria as a whole.
In his words, he said “This appointment as the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland which is being bestowed on me, was accepted because it is in line with our mission, on reformation of Yoruba Muslims’ understanding of Islam, their ideologies and misconceptions which are affecting Islamic development in the region.
“My office will be used to connect, network and bring Muslim scholars across the region together with the support of Oluwo and Wazeer of Yorubaland to channel a new path for Yoruba Muslims and better Nigeria.”
He therefore called on all to work together to reform and dignify Muslims in the region, while thanking the Oluwo and all others.
“I am not the best, but with your support and prayers, Yoruba Muslims will now begin to wear a new look.Let’s work together for the reformation and dignity of Yoruba Muslims. I am delighted that I have you all behind me.
“Being thankful does not only enhance our own life, but also makes other people feel appreciated. With profound humility, I write to appreciate the Emir of Yorubaland, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, my mentor, the Wazeer of Yorubaland, the league of Imams and Alfas, Muslim scholars across the region, all Muslim organizations in Yorubaland, Taawun members, Taawun political forum and Imams forum, for their support. May Allah continue to strengthen you all on goodness”, he appreciated.
I suggest that so called oluwo is not a Yoruba ma, because if he is, he would not be siding the fulani and Hausa against Yoruba, even those kingmaker that made him the king must have collected bribe to do jungle justice for him to assend the throne
