Court remands thug in Agodi prison for raping niqobite in Ibadan

An Ibadan Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday ordered that a thug, identified as Idris Rasheed popularly known as Kesari, be remanded at Agodi prison, for allegedly raping a niqobite; a Muslim woman in veil.

Muslim News had earlier reported how the suspect on Saturday night led the victim to a secluded area where he perpetrated the evil act.

The suspect who came to court with his father, one of the leaders of the Oyo State Park Management System (PMS), popularly called Al-Majiri, was arraigned on holding charge by Chief Magistrate AA. Ogunkanmi, who said that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain such matter.

The court therefore didn’t take his plea, thereby ordered him to be remanded at Agodi prison pending legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ministry of Justice.

The court has adjourned the matter until March 15, 2023 for mention.

Our Correspondent at the court observed that the victim was well represented by a team of lawyers, Muslims and non-Muslims; as well as the human rights organisations.

Speaking with Muslim News, a member of the legal team for the victim, Barrister Hassan, said, “The suspect has been arraigned and remanded in prison. Nothing will happen until he is arraigned before the High Court. We are on top of the matter. May Allah give us victory. Aameen”.
