The Grand Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organisations, CIO, Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’i has condemned the recent burning of the Qur’an in Sweden, calling on Nigerians to boycott the country’s products.
Sheikh Shafi’i, in his emotion-laden Khutbah (sermon) on Friday at the TMC Da’wah Center, Lagos described the act as provocative and a violation of the rights to freedom of worship by Muslims around the world.
The respected Muslim scholar told thousands of Muslim faithful at the popular Da’wah Centre that the League of Imams all over the world agreed that sermons from Friday’s khutbah should be centred on the condemnable act.
Addressing the congregation in the Yoruba language during the sermon monitored by Muslim News, Sheikh Shafi’i declared that the leadership of the Muslim community around the world has not only demanded a public apology but that Muslims in protest should boycott all products from Sweden.
According to him, one of the ways to protest the act was for Islamic countries to withdraw their Diplomats from Sweden and order those from the country to return to their country.
He insisted that Muslims must use all they have within the law to defend the religion from those who want to tarnish its image.
The Grand Mufti said desecrating the Qur’an is one of the six red lines of the Muslims that must not be crossed, adding that the remaining five include Insulting Allah and His Messenger, Prophet Muhammad, SAW; ridiculing the Companions of the Prophet, destroying the Masjid, and attacking Hijab.
He said anyone who crosses the redlines will see the displeasure of the Muslims worldwide.
Shafi’i, who is also the spiritual leader of The TMC, urged Muslims to cultivate the habit of regular recitation of the Holy Qur’an towards a worthy life and peaceful coexistence.
According to Imam Shafi’i, there are bountiful rewards for those who adhere to the injunctions of Allah in the world and thereafter.
He also explained that all acts of Ibaadah in Islam including the just concluded hajj exercise to Saudi Arabia attract high rewards from Allah.
