Israeli air strikes kill 50 Palestinians, injure hundreds at Gaza’s refugee camp

‘66% of 8,300 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks are children, women’: Gaza’s Health Ministry

‘Gaza has become a graveyard for thousands of children,’ says UNICEF

Palestinian health officials said at least 50 Palestinians were killed while several others were injured when deadly Israeli air strikes hit a densely populated refugee camp in north Gaza on Tuesday, as Israeli ground forces battled Palestinian resistance group, Hamas based in a sprawling tunnel network.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed international calls for a halt to the fighting to enable emergency aid deliveries to civilians suffering from critical shortages of food, medicine, drinking water and fuel.

UN and other aid officials said Gaza’s civilians were engulfed by a public health catastrophe, with hospitals struggling to treat snowballing casualties as electricity supplies peter out.

Officials at Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital said more than 50 Palestinians were killed and 150 wounded when tons of aerial explosives struck residential dwellings in the heart of the Jabalia refugee camp in urbanized north Gaza.

Israel has acknowledged it was behind the strike, saying it was targeting a high-ranking Hamas commander.

Hamas has rejected its commander was present and said the claim was an attempt to justify its “heinous crime” on the Jabalia camp.

Israel’s military also has said it made gains in its ongoing ground operations in Gaza, including killing 50 fighters and capturing what it described as a Hamas stronghold in the north.

Footage obtained by Reuters showed a swathe of destruction, with deep bomb craters and gutted, multi-story cement dwellings as people dug through mounds of rubble with their hands in search of loved ones, dead or alive.

Medics lay the dead swaddled in white cloth in a long line outside the hospital, located in the adjacent town of Beit Lahiya, as the injured including wailing children were rushed inside for treatment amid scenes of pandemonium.

The medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) expressed its deep shock and condemnation Tuesday following reports of a deadly airstrike by Israel on the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza.

“We are horrified by news coming from Jabalia camp where high numbers of people have reportedly been killed by an Israeli airstrike. “After the attack, many wounded people arrived to Al-Shifa Hospital where our teams helped to provide emergency medical care,” it said on X.

“We condemn this latest episode of senseless violence and reiterate our call for an immediate cease-fire to prevent more deaths across the Strip. Enough is enough!” it added.

Gaza has become a graveyard for thousands of children. It’s a living hell for everyone else, said UNICEF.

As reported by Reuters, 940 children were reported missing in Gaza.

UNICEF spokesperson noted, “Infant death due to dehydration in Gaza is a growing threat with 5% of normal daily water output.”

A series of Israeli airstrikes on the refugee camp led to hundreds of casualties, according to the Interior Ministry in the besieged enclave.

Victims mostly included women and children, it said, adding that Israeli warplanes destroyed the entire residential square known as Block 6.

The Israeli army has expanded its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the surprise offensive Hamas conducted earlier this month.

More than 8,625 Palestinians have been killed — 66% of them women and children – and tens of thousands injured, according to the latest figures from Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The conflict has also led to the death of 1,538 Israelis.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected growing calls for a cease-fire, saying it would be a “surrender” to Hamas.

But many more are needed.

I'm not done pushing for more bombs and will continue to support Israel’s genocide of Gaza civilians.” pic.twitter.com/6VGGwt9Sea
