The Lagos Branch of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) has appointed Mr. Ismail Adewunmi Adebayo as its new Chairman.
The announcement was made during the July edition of the association’s monthly meeting, held at the SAT Mosque, Old Secretariat, Ikeja. Mr. Shakiru Obale, Chairman of the Shurah Committee, detailed the comprehensive nomination, screening, and selection process that led to the formation of the 13-member executive team tasked with leading the association for the next two years.
The new executive team comprises distinguished members from different parts of the state and the Ministry of Justice.
Mr. Ismail Adewunmi Adebayo will be supported by Mr AbdulHakeem Ade Jamiu as 1st Vice Chairman and Mr Sofiyyullai Oladipo as 2nd Vice Chairman. The team also includes Mr Abdulrasheed Olayeni Aliu as General Secretary; Mal. AbdulLateef Akorede GiyasuDeen as 1st General Assistant Secretary; and Mr Ismail Adegoke Aliyu as 2nd Assistant Secretary.
In addition, Mr Sulaiman Akin Elegbede will serve as Financial Secretary, Mrs Kareemat Adeola Salisu as Assistant Financial Secretary, and Mrs Sekinah Oduye-Quadri as Treasurer. The roles of Public Relations Officer, Social Secretary, Welfare Secretary, and Auditor will be held by Jeleel Abolaji Olayinka, Mr Ismail Ayomide Afunso, Hajia Adijat Gbadamosi, and Mr Sulaiman Kola Kadri, respectively.
The Shurah Committee also provided several recommendations to improve the efficiency of the new executive team and MULAN Lagos.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by former chairmen of the Lagos Branch, including Mr Hassan Fajimite, Mr Musadiq Sanni, and Mr Musibau Ajibola Kaka, who offered their advice on commitment, sincerity, dedication, and sacrifice in fulfilling their duties.
In his acceptance speech, Adebayo emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration among members, requesting their support and the continued guidance of former leaders.
Adewunmi Ismail Adebayo, LLB, BL, LLM, is a distinguished Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the Principal Partner of A.I. Adebayo & Co. He brings extensive experience in commercial law, debt recovery, employment, and property transactions. Before the new appointment, Adebayo served MULAN in various capacities, including as 2nd Vice-Chairman, Chairman of the Knowledge Sharing & Professional Development Committee and Secretary of the National Shurah (Electoral) Committee.
