Don’t join protest, it’s of no benefit, says former lawmaker

Hon AbdulLateef

* Urges Nigerians to stick to Quran as solution to economic hardship

The immediate former chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Hon. Dr. Abdulhakeem AbdulLateef has called on well-meaning Nigerians not to join the proposed protest against hardship, scheduled for Thursday, August 1.

Hon. AbdulLateef made the call on Sunday at the 2024 Haflah (Quranic memorisation ceremony) of Markaz Abdul Lateef Centre for Quranic Memorisation and Arabic Studies, otherwise known as Khalwatu Tanzeel, held at Agege Township Stadium, Agege, Lagos.

Muslim News gathered that no fewer than 146 students graduated from the Center after they had completed their memorisation of the Qur’an; the largest number at a single event in the history of Quranic memorisation in the southwest region of the country.

Details of the Haflah are address in a separate report…

Hon AbdulLateef, who founded the madrasah, in his address, monitored by Muslim News said, “We are witnessing a very different situations in our lives. I want to use the opportunity to urge us not to join the protest of August 1. Don’t join the protest. It’s of no benefit.

“Go and look at all those countries where protests took place, the poor masses were the ones who eventually suffered. Their stores were burnt and they became poorer than they were,” he noted

While addressing the mammoth crowd comprising parents, families, graduands and well-wishers, the former Commissioner for Home Affairs in Lagos suggested the ballot as an alternative way to respond to the economic hardship bedeviling the country.

“The best way to respond to any economic hardship is to wait for the time of election and use your vote the way you like”, adding “Lastly, in order to save yourself from the hardship the country is facing, stick to the Qur’an.

“Allah says whoever works righteously, male or female , so long you’re a believer, I will grant you a good life”, he added.
