MSSN Lagos urges devotion to home management and personal growth at Ummahaat Day

By Zulaykha Abodunrin

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit has held its annual Ummahaat Program, themed Devoted Dynamo.

The event, held at the Yaba College of Technology Main Auditorium, brought together Muslim women in Lagos and its environs to engage in discussions centered on personal growth, family development, and societal impact.

In an address, the Ummahaat Coordinator, Hajia Balikis Owolewa, emphasized the role of devotion in strengthening families and communities.

She urged attendees to remain committed to both personal and community development, stressing that a strong home is the foundation of a thriving society.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Dr. Nimotallahi Bakare, Senior Assistant Registrar at the University of Lagos, spoke on the theme, stressing the importance of fostering strong mother-child relationships.

She explained that the quality of this bond significantly influences not only the child’s development but also the broader societal fabric.

“A devoted dynamo is an extraordinary woman who is a devoted servant of Allah, a good mother, a loving wife, an adoring daughter, a wonderful neighbor, a great sister, an impactful individual, and a possessor of good character,” she said.

Dr. Nimotallahi underscored the importance of modeling healthy behaviors for children, prioritizing quality family time, and ensuring that spouses are actively involved in home decision-making. She urged women to nurture emotional intelligence within their families, as this fosters harmony and understanding.

On her part, Hajia Mariam Eshinlokun-Sanni spoke on the significance of physical health, advocating for regular exercise and balanced diet. She cautioned against neglecting one’s body, noting that poor health choices could lead to decreased energy levels and serious health complications.

“Taking care of your body is an act of devotion. A strong and healthy woman is better equipped to care for her family, serve her community, and fulfill her responsibilities with excellence,” she stated.

The event featured an interactive session where attendees shared personal experiences and practical strategies for maintaining a balance between spiritual devotion, family responsibilities, and personal well-being.

The MSSN reiterated its commitment to empowering Muslim women with the knowledge and support needed to thrive in all aspects of life.
